    ... 1993 also happens to be when I was in high school, which brings back a lot of sad memories of the ways that gay people (or even people we thought might be gay) were treated in my high school. So much ugly homophobia, but with lots of fear lurking in the background. And I am reminded again of my own participation in that homophobia (as teenager and young adult). I think I will be making amends for that for the rest of my life.

    3. Mona Ramsey (now Lady Roughton) and her adopted son Wilfred were some of my favorite characters of the previous books in this series, so it is so nice to get to see and hear from them again. It is like hanging out with old friends.

    4. As usual, Armistead Maupin is genre-busting. There are already elements of comedy, tragedy, soap opera. and mystery.

    5. Arch-homophobe #JesseHelms plays a small role in the book! I won't say more, but if you know the history of Armistead Maupin, you know why this is such a big deal.
