  1. Ah yes, Jesse Brown has reached the "promote Meir Weinstein's JDL shit" stage.

In case anyone was still unclear what Zionists are like, here's a "fun" moment from the past:

Jewish Defence League and Soldiers of Odin at a PEGIDA rally (IIRC).

    Nationalists of a feather.

  5. I listened to Jesse Brown's podcast on the Canadaland subreddit so you don't have to.

    Top takeaways:
    - Reddit still sucks and is full of trolls.
    - Even more people hate Jesse Brown than ever.
    - Some use sock puppets to attack him.
    - Mark Bourrie might be one.
    - Few journalists understand how IP addresses work.

I can't believe how much time I've spent on reddit to follow this mostly boring story of rabbit holes of pettiness and outrage.

  10. This past weekend I caught up on complaints against @jessebrown of Canadaland.

I'm withholding judgement, but want to clarify something. If someone emails you a unique URL and you click it, then your IP can be logged.

Critics seem focused on Canadaland's use of TraceMyIP, but no special tool is required. This is a core function of all web stat software. To hide your IP, use a VPN.

    @pressprogress
has a good article on the debacle:

  15. CW: Tl;dr of Jesse Brown Reddit Scandal

So Jesse Brown of #Canadaland was able to gain mod access to r/Canadaland, a subreddit that he despises because people are highly critical of him.

Once he gained mod access, he used it to send accounts links to "unpublished" webpages on Canadaland with a pixel tracker installed to reveal the Reddit users IP address. So far, weird, but not really doing anything.

But! He was also sending unique webpages to journalists by email or social media so he could crossreference IP addresses to "reveal" critical accounts as journalists.

Altogether a very weird conspiratorial minded ploy.

People use VPNs and Tor, especially journalists. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish, but I'm guessing he was trying to create some "gotcha" podcast episode talking about journalists "working against him in the shadows on Reddit," or something.

  20. Watching the "Jesse Brown phishes reddit users" show with a bucket of popcorn and a vague memory of saying to people that NO, ACTUALLY, YOU WOULDN’T JUST MAGICALLY "KNOW" THAT SOMEONE IS A TOXIC AND DANGEROUS EGOMANIAC, HOW DO YOU THINK JEFFREY'S DAHMER GOT PEOPLE TO COME OVER FOR DINNER?

    *cough*
At least he has to pay his immediate enablers.

(Five'll get you ten that the escalation into breakdown territory happened because of a chat with his favourite guest. Can't wait for him to start rambling on about CSIS.)

I think these are all in order, and you should be able to read all of them in a browser (though not replies):
