Yesterday was #JerryLawson 's birthday (he would have been 82). He developed the first #videoGame cartridge—before him, you bought a system with preinstalled games and no ability to get new ones.
If you aren't familiar, the fun little Google Doodle game will explain who he is and what he achieved.

Take a moment to read about Jerry Lawson. It’s his birthday today. He developed the first video game cartridge, which revolutionized gaming. He was a real genius. But we only hear admiration for the pseudo genius of the Elon Musks of the world and the Great White industrial barons. America would be NOTHING without the contributions of Black folks. We must promote our history because the truth must be HEARD.

Straight up did not know about this brother. Very cool.

Make sure to check out the awesome Google #Doodle today: https://www.google.com/doodles/gerald-jerry-lawsons-82nd-birthday
It celebrates the 82nd birthday of Jerry Lawson, an engineer who led the team that invented the video game cartridge. He was one of only two black members of the Homebrew Computer Club. (#TIL)
The doodle allows you to make and play your own mini-games. My 9yo discovered the doodle this morning and told me about it, and he's been super excited to be making games with it. #JerryLawson

Great to see Jerry Lawson honored through today's Google doodle. If you haven't already watched the great Netflix docuseries High Score, there is a beautiful segment with his kids. My wife worked on it.

I love the fact Google is celebrating #JerryLawson's legacy by having a Google Doodle about his work on would have been his 82nd birthday. Without his work, we wouldn't have video games as we now know them.

Today's Google Doodle for #JerryLawson is one of the best I've ever seen.

As mentioned in Google's doodle today, Jerry Lawson created games in his garage. However, not a lot of people know the full story behind that.
Lawson was always a fun-loving guy. In fact before Fairchild, he made a name for himself in Silicon Valley as a prankster.
Lawson was among a few number of engineers who purchased a minicomputer (which was not mini) to have in his garage, in this case a PDP-8. Several other notable game creators - like Lane Hauck of Gremlin - also did this as their first step into making games.

#Gaming : The (I must admit amazing) "doodle" of the day taught me the big achievement of the late #JerryLawson (whose 82nd birthday is today) : no more and no less than the #videogame #cartridge (for Fairchild Channel F console) 🕹️
