Dass Crauss Maßstäbe setzt, was zeitgenössische Lyrik angeht, steht nicht erst seit #friederikemayröcker s Diktum “So müssen Gedichte heute sein!” fest. Im Sommer war Crauss nochmals Standard @derstandardat : mit einem Gesprochenen Lied, nämlich #jenniferrush s “ring of ice” wurde er in der wichtigsten österreichischen Tageszeitung präsentiert. 40 years ago this week, "Power Of Love (You Are My Lady)" by #AirSupply entered the #Top100 at 84. It peaked at 68 on 24 Aug 1985. It was a cover of the #JenniferRush song from the previous year. The opening shot is [chef's kiss]: a figure sways in a bright spotlight. As we near, it turns out to be Jennifer. The pull has lasted the entire first verse and the start of the chorus, and they complete the song with just a handful of cuts through the song. Jennifer always makes the connection to the viewer.
Jennifer's at number one with 103k sales to A-ha's 90k, Elton John has 80k.

Always room in the charts for a good power ballad, this one's not too far from Foreigner earlier in the year.
Mostly-black outfit, leather miniskirt, pink flashes on one shoulder and down the other arm, same shade of pink on her lipstick.
Jennifer knows where the camera is, and how to engage with it: a sideways glance, a long stare. This is a bit good.

It's the fourth of six performances in the studio, and the director knows exactly what to do, and what Jennifer's going to do.
A bit like how we know exactly how the song goes, and - in *very* small doses - it's a pleasant burst of nostalgia. Don't want to hear it again till next year, mind.
