I have just gotten word that Jehovah's Witnesses have made a major amendment to their doctrines. They are now allowed to accept blood transfusions as long as it's their own blood, i.e. blood they extracted/donated at an earlier date that they now use for reinfusion.
This is such a painful change. Decades of people dying from not allowing themselves to receive life-saving medical procedures because they believe it's a sin. And now, it was all man-made apparently.

Oh my gosh! Just found out today I got a creation grant to work on my speculative short story collection. The stories will be based on my interpretation of what the world would be like if Jehovah's Witness teachings were literally true. The answer: very fucking weird. Many thanks to the Ontario Arts Council for the grant, and to House of Anansi Press for recommending me.

I remember this magazine. I was twelve years old when it came out, and being groomed to be understanding to rapists. I was being taught that if I didn’t scream, it wasn’t rape, and that the best offense to a rapist was to pray out loud to Jehovah. Meanwhile, I was afraid to wash my crotch too much in the bath for fear that that constituted “self abuse.” My mom told me I couldn’t use tampons because that would be losing my virginity. The following is a side-by-side rebuttal to the JW.org (the official Jehovah's Witnesses website) document "Blood Transfusions: How Safe?", which exists to provide a health-based defence for the Witnesses' disavowal of blood transfusions. "How Safe" alleges that blood transfusions pose several serious health risks, but uses many outdated publications that are no longer relevant in the slightest. Moreover, the article presents many "scary" truths in order to frighten people from transfusions - without even mentioning the comparable risks of refusing blood transfusions.
Although the document was originally published in the 1990s, JW.org keeps the publication online and presents it without noting that its contents are hopelessly out-of-date.
Overall, the document is a pseudoscientific defense of a religious #dogma.

When I went to visit my Jehovah’s Witness parents a month or so ago, I told them that I was fighting for and doing my best to protect the land. They told me I shouldn’t bother since this was all foretold in the Bible and everything will be soon destroyed in Armageddon anyway.
