  1. 3 things about Jean Rollin’s THE LIVING DEAD GIRL [1982]

    1. Axe to the head for Greg.
    2. “My life and my death are here.”
    3. Perpetual torches in the crypt?

If this is Rollin’s best, no thank you very much.

I hope one or two of you enjoy this. I'd love one or two of you to like/subscribe. All feedback welcome on the videos, as it's always supposed to be left open for conversation instead of just being all from my lone perspective.

  4. I'm very fond of Jean Rollin’s late films like Dracula's Fiancee (2002). They have a magical vibe, reminiscent of magic realism with no attempt to explain the magical elements. Once again Rollin creates a whole new mythology. Mesmerising stuff.

  5. Lips of Blood (1975) marks the end of the first phase of Jean Rollin’s career, in which Rollin tried to combine unconventional erotic horror with full-blooded surrealism. Its commercial failure forced him to change direction. A great movie.

  7. The Nude Vampire (1970) Jean Rollin

What an amazing first, silent 10 minutes. I can't imagine having been able to watch this in the theater. And the Castel sisters' outfits!

I just purchased a program from when it was first released in France and am having a (justified) rewatch.

  8. Jean Rollin’s Lost in New York (1989), a precursor to his excellent Two Orphan Vampires (1997). This is a movie obsessed with time and with the pop culture of the past that Rollin loved.

There are two girls, lost in time and unable to find each other.

Subtle surrealism, dream-like, haunting. Brilliant movie.

  9. Killing Car (1993), a very odd untypical Jean Rollin movie, but a very good and interesting one. An Asian woman has a car and a gun and she makes use of both. She goes on a killing spree.

There's Rollin surrealism here, but it's a gritty scuzzy harsh surrealism.

  11. @REEL I went through a #JeanRollin phase a long while ago and know too few people who have experienced his films. 🙂

  12. The Nude Vampire (1970), second of Jean Rollin's vampire films.

You might expect a straightforward erotic horror movie. If so you’re going to become very disoriented very quickly. Rollin was a surrealist. I don’t mean he just used surrealist images and techniques to add atmosphere. This movie is surrealism all the way through.

    Great movie.

  13. My latest folly is upgrading my entire collection of Jean Rollin's films from DVD to Blu-Ray.

I don't normally do this (I'm not obsessed with the Blu-Ray format) but the DVDs are from the early DVD era. And we are talking about Jean Rollin, just about my all-time favourite film director.

    It's an expensive project.
