  1. Who was Ona Judge?
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ona_Judge
'Ona Judge Staines (c. 1773 โ€“ February 25, 1848), also known as Oney Judge, was a slave owned by [George] Washington's family.

She was born and held at the family's plantation at Mount Vernon, Virginia [...]

Judge was in her 20s when she escaped from the Philadelphia household in May 1796, to get to freedom farther north. She was classified as a fugitive slave and Washington advertised for her return. She had learned that Martha Washington intended to transfer her enslavement to her granddaughter, which meant Judge would be returned to Virginia with little chance of freedom.

Judge reached Portsmouth, in New Hampshire, a free state. There she married, had children, and converted to Christianity. Though Judge was never formally freed, after Washington's death, his survivors ultimately stopped pressing her to return to enslavement in Virginia...'

  2. Pregnant migrant girls are being sent to a Texas shelter flagged as medically risky
    opb.org/article/2026/03/04/pre
โ€“ '...The US Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) officials said they were never told why the girls are being concentrated in a single location, let alone in this particular shelter in Texas. But they โ€” along with more than a dozen former government officials, health care professionals, migrant advocates and civil rights attorneys โ€” worry the Trump administration is knowingly putting the children at risk to advance an ideological goal: denying them access to abortion by placing them in a state where itโ€™s virtually banned.

โ€œThis is 100% and exclusively about abortion,โ€ said Jonathan White, a longtime federal health official who ran ORRโ€™s unaccompanied children program for part of President Trumpโ€™s first term. White, who recently retired from the government, said the administration tried and failed to restrict abortion access for unaccompanied minors in 2017. โ€œNow they casually roll out what they brutally fought to accomplish last time and didnโ€™t.โ€...'

  3. US tech 'kill switch' risks undermining majority of EU defence systems
    brusselstimes.com/eu-affairs/2
โ€“ 'Over half of European countries are critically reliant on US cloud services for their national defence โ€“ exposing them to a high risk of a potential US-sanctioned "kill switch [...]

Of the 28 analysed countries, 23 are at a medium to high risk of exposure, of which 16 are especially vulnerable, including Germany, Poland, Denmark and the UK, the institute found. Only one country โ€“ Austria โ€“ was said to be fully sovereign in its cloud solution for defence and security systems, while the Netherlands might follow their example...'

  4. CUBA Has Collapsed
    youtu.be/NQ9-3jiUprE
โ€“ 'Cuba is facing one of the worst crises in its modern history.

In this video, we take a deep dive into what is really happening on the ground in Cuba as the country struggles with severe fuel shortages, collapsing infrastructure, and an economy that is spiralling out of control.

Itโ€™s been reported that power cuts are now lasting up to 20โ€“22 hours per day in some areas, leaving millions without electricity, water, and basic services. With petrol stations empty, transport grinding to a halt, and food supplies under pressure, daily life for ordinary Cubans is becoming increasingly difficult.

We also explore how the US oil blockade has intensified the situation, cutting off vital fuel supplies and pushing the country closer to a full-scale humanitarian crisis. As tourism collapses and foreign currency dries up, the economic model that once sustained Cuba is now breaking down.

From empty streets in Havana to growing food shortages and rising poverty, this is a story about more than just economics โ€” itโ€™s about a country running out of options.'

  5. Traders placed over $1bn in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war. What is going on?
    theguardian.com/world/2026/apr
โ€“ 'Sixteen bets made $100,000 each accurately predicting the timing of the US airstrikes against Iran on 27 February. Later, a single user would make over $550,000 after betting that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would topple, just moments before his assassination by Israeli forces. On 7 April, right before Donald Trump announced a temporary ceasefire with Iran, traders bet $950m that oil prices would come down. They did.

These bets and other well-timed wagers accurately predicted the precise timing of major developments in the US-Israel war with Iran...'
