Reasons why software is terrible, today: the <col> element
The #JATS standard: "[it] is based on and intended to be converted easily to the XHMTL col element." The standard includes many attributes for that element.
The #HTML working group: cool, but we deprecated the use of most attributes in <col> elements. Browsers ignore half of those.
