  2. I had a request from @LeafyHistory to help translate this text for their upcoming discussion group on the wolf in Japan. The 'dog Shogun' Tsunayoshi was something of an animal lover, and his Buddhist tendencies led to some extensive animal rights laws - even for wild animals!

  3. NEW Deep in Japan podcast "KUKAI THE UNIVERSAL with Professor Steve McCarty" on the life and times of Japan's great saint Kūkai, Esoteric Buddhism, and Zen. I discuss the book in terms of East Asian history, language education, and translation issues including voice. My philosophy is expressed as well, so comments would be much appreciated.

  4. Have you heard of #PechaKucha #presentation meetings? Wikipedia: "a #storytelling format in which a presenter shows 20 slides for 20 seconds of commentary each," from the #Japanese word for chatter. Notice also the #narrative #genre of the following book:

NEW PechaKucha Presentation: A Passion for Japan: A Collection of Personal Narratives (a slide and brief description for each of the 30 chapters, by the editor) at pechakucha.com/presentations/a

Search "A Passion for Japan" to order the #book on Amazon.

My chapter "Discovering Japanese Fusion of #Religions on the #Pilgrimage Island of #Shikoku" is free at research repositories academia.edu/82383623 or researchgate.net/publication/3

It is a #research #memoir but it also tells the #story of my life in relation to #Japan. These photos in the slide are from when I was a young researcher.

If I may suggest to those interested in #global #religions, read my chapter "Discovering Japanese Fusion of Religions on the Pilgrimage Island of Shikoku" in the popular new book A Passion for Japan, free at the research repositories academia.edu/82383623 or researchgate.net/publication/3
I reconstructed the lost chord of a #mandala of mountains, a #syncretism of many #AsianReligions in the classical age around a thousand years ago.

  6. In the popular new book A Passion for Japan: A Collection of Personal Narratives, 30 authors provide inside perspectives on living in Japan. My chapter "Discovering Japanese Fusion of Religions on the Pilgrimage Island of Shikoku" is free at the research repositories academia.edu/82383623 or researchgate.net/publication/3
My translation of the chapter into Japanese (和訳): 「巡礼の島・四国で発見した日本の宗教融合」 (corrected by a native speaking university teacher in Kyoto) is free to download from works.hcommons.org/records/zjf
