━━━━━━━━━━━This list says I read five novelettes, while the totals at the end say six. There are similar discrepancies in novellas and shorts.
That's because for the monthly list, I only count the stuff read in the month proper, while in the year's running total, I count everything read in the ISO year. 2026 is 53 weeks long; it already grabbed three days from 2025, and will take three from 2027.
During the last three days of December I read three shorts, a novelette, and a novella, which count for 2026, but not for January.

2024-10: 26 ss | 03 nvt | 00 nva | 06 novI shifted to Monday-start weeks this month, which was fine. I also switched to midnight-start days, which wasn't. I'm going back to 8am starts, since half of my reading is done after midnight, and I sometimes forget that I must get a story done before midnight to fit the calendar.

[1] A reply to this post repeats brief descriptions of the novels. For descriptions of the shorter tales, see the weekly posts. Most short stories this month come from single-author collections (Paul Ernst, Rog Phillips, John Wyndham) or multi-author anthologies:
New Adventures in Space Opera - Jonathan Strahan, ed.
Legends of Science Fiction: 1950 - Christopher Broschell, ed.[2] This category is not likely to ever get high, but zero annoys me, so for next month I dug up something that proclaims it's a novella on the cover. Though the middle story in the trilogy is half again as long, and the finale is more than twice that.

I'm going back to 8am starts, since half of my reading is done after midnight, and I sometimes forget that I must get a story done before midnight to fit the calendar.

January is coming to an end, and I've opened the year with three completed books. All in Finnish, one is a translated edition of Tolkien's Silmarillion we read together with a group. On to the next reads!
Tammikuun luetuissa kolme suomenkielistä teosta. Näistä yksi on syksyllä ilmestynyt Tolkienin Silmarillionin tekijän kuvittama laitos, joka luettiin yhdessä #klassikoidenlukuseura kanssa. Kohti seuraavia lukumatkoja!

My January reads:
📚 The Lost Child of Philomena Lee
📚 The Island by Alistair MacLeod
📚 Shatter Girl by Shay FuentesMy favourite read for January was "Shatter Girl." I feel lucky to have connected with Shay via Instagram and was honoured to be part of her ARC team. She's relaunching the book on Fenruary 10th, so if you're in the mood for a bad boy redemption/New Adult love story, then I highly recommend this one!
