#Komainu to para kamiennych psów, stojących po obu stronach wejścia do świątyni #shintoizm shintoistycznych. Zazwyczaj są rzeźbione w kamieniu, ale zdarzają się malowane lub drewniane. Pierwszy z psów, o imieniu A, zieje i ma otwartą paszczę, a jego towarzysz (Un) robi wydech i ma paszczę zamkniętą. Symbolizuje to równowagę między wdechem a wydechem, a jednocześnie równowagę kosmiczną pomiędzy siłami #jin i #jang. Fraza "A-Un-no-kokyu", czyli "oddech A i Un" oznacza związek między ludźmi tak bliski, że mogą porozumiewać się bez słów. Psy #pies chronią świątynię przed złymi duchami.
Komainu wywodzą się z #Indie i są tam stylizowanymi przedstawieniami lwów. Chińczycy (#Chiny) przejęli lwy i dodali im atrybuty znanych im tygrysów oraz cechy psów rasy pekińskiej, stanowiących dumę rodziny cesarskiej. W tej postaci stały się znane też na Półwyspie Koreańskim i dotarły do #Japonia, gdzie zmieniono je w psy. Czasem są nazywane karashishi (chińskimi lwami). Na #Okinawa występują podobne stwory zwane #shissa.
