  1. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will no longer ship OpenJDK 19

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy Jellyfish was shipped with OpenJDK 19 as one of the supported Java open-source JDK toolkit. However, what was recently planned today has drawn our attention, and we felt the need to warn users using OpenJDK 19 on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

By October 2025, OpenJDK 19, which was EOL on March 23rd, 2023, will no longer be available on the official repositories for the Jammy Jellyfish release. This means that you will no longer be able to download and install OpenJDK 19. Any Java application should work fine with either OpenJDK 17 or 21, unless issues crop up.

You can take a look at this announcement for more information regarding the OpenJDK 19 sunset on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

  3. After I upgraded to #Ubuntu 22.04, everything I print is approximately 1.5% smaller. This affects all applications.

This is imperceptible unless you are trying to print on standard size labels using standard templates. Then the error stacks and the print doesn't line up with the labels at the bottom of the page.

  5. I updated my installation of Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04 recently. I didn't use the builtin upgrade tool but used a different and in my view simpler method. How did the upgrade process go? Well, almost perfect barring a small glitch. To know about the upgrade route I took and what little glitch I encountered, please read this short blog post,

  6. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is Now Available to Download

Ahoy, folks — Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is now available to download from the Ubuntu website. Ubuntu 22.04 is front-loaded with a wealth of improvements including a new horizontal workspace switcher and app launcher, new UI accent colours, RDP support out-of-the-box, and Linux kernel 5.15. As the latest long-term support release this version of Ubuntu (which is codenamed “Jammy Jellyfish”) is backed by at least 5 years of ongoing support, security patches, bug fixes, and select app updates. Which is pretty rad. If you read this site regularly you’ll have a good idea about what Ubuntu 22.04 LTS offers (so I :sys_more_orange:

  7. Ubuntu 22.04: What’s New? [Video]

The Ubuntu 22.04 release carries a colossal crop of cumulative changes and improvements added in the previous three releases — but what are the most notable? That’s the question I answer in my Ubuntu 22.04: What’s New video. Yes, I’m back with a breathy, bi-annual bulldoze through the biggest and best embellishments on offer. As Jammy is a long-term support release — fun fact: > 90% of all Ubuntu users use an LTS release — there’s a lot to cover with features carried over from 20.10, 21.04, and 21.10, plus the newly new stuff that debuts in 22.04! In 5 :sys_more_orange:

  8. These AI-Made Ubuntu Mascot Artworks are Incredible

I don’t understand neural networks work, much less how they go about drawing stuff without any hands, but boy am I blown away by the results they can produce. Every Ubuntu release has a codename composed of an adjective and an animal. These cute and irreverent pairings lead to a spurt of artwork created by professional and amateur artists, illustrators, photographers, and graphics designers alike. But open source enthusiast Simon Butcher (who is also head of research platforms at Queen Mary University London, so knows a thing or two about bespoke computing workloads) decided to take a different approach. 10. The Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Codename is a Jolly Good Choice

The codename for next year’s Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release has been revealed as ‘Jammy Jellyfish’. The new name was posted on Launchpad, home of Ubuntu development, as is tradition. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is the next long-term support release of Ubuntu and is due for release in April 2022. Planning for the release is just about getting underway so not too much is (yet) known plans for it. We can assume it’ll feature a new kernel, new graphics drivers, update apps, and GNOME 41 (or later).
