  1. JAH WOBBLE
    Heaven & Earth
    1995 UK 2xLP pressing

Last spin of the night, and a nice way to end a Friday evening of tunes.

This is a real gem, but a difficult one to categorize or explain to people.

This has ALL kinds of vibes about it. There’s some Middle Eastern-sounding sections here, some #ambient #dub and #electronic flourishes, too.

This is very different music than what John Wardle was first and MOST famous for (a founding member of Public Image Ltd).

Since the first two PIL albums, he’s dabbled in all kinds of music; world, dance, ambient… all of which are present here on Heaven And Earth.

One second you’re charming snakes or making a long journey across the desert, the next you’re trying to put a baby to sleep in Tangiers.

It’s a record I pull out sparingly, as I have to be in the right mood to hear it, but when I do, I ALWAYS enjoy it.

  2. I heard this today for the first time in ages. It tends to get overlooked when people talk about Sinéad O'Connor's work but I love her contribution to this @#JahWobble track.

  4. Oh, nice. New BASSMATTER exclusive album just dropped: a live show from 2016 with Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart and Bill Laswell. Something great to listen to while editing. #Music #Bass #BillLaswell #JahWobble

    The prompt is Creation

Axiom Dub: Mysteries of Creation 1996

It must have been pretty soon after I came to appreciate #RootsReggae that I found its deeper, spacier sibling, #dub - hell, just flip the 7” or let the 12” run, and there’s the dub version. THIS was the shit; it still is for me.

I think it was one night while listening to #WZBC, #BostonCollege's radio station, that I got my first taste of this Axiom Dub #compilation.

#BillLaswell, wielder of massively heavy #bass, created the Axiom label for his own projects, but also released work by some other artists of his ilk. What he created with this compilation was my portal to a whole new world of sound.

Familiar names like #SlyAndRobbie and #JahWobble mingled with newer players on the scene #SubDub and #DJSpooky; yes, dub #reggae was here, but also new sounds, like a more #electronic-based #BrokenBeat sound, #ambient's skittery cousin #Illbient.

  12. New #review today: "Since first coming to attention with #PublicImageLtd in the late 70s, bassist #JahWobble has had a varied career exploring music that combines influences from all over the world, with special focus on dub and punk rock. A Brief History of Now continues his exploration of those ideas, presenting them in a propulsive and enjoyable set of tunes." #ExposeOnline #AvantRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

  13. #JahWobble said much the same thing, stating, “If I wanted a cheeky Cockney pianist playing over my stuff, I’d get Chas and Dave.”
He was banned for life from BBC music shows by the executive producer, Mark Cooper (who was somebody’s brother and whose qualifications for the job was that he used to edit readers’ letters for Record Mirror!)

This was a response I read in the Facebook thread accompanying this article, very humorous.

  14. Rick Wakeman, Jah Wobble and Chester Thompson teamed up under the name The Fusion Syndicate to record new music.

Here is the track, called Io.

The upcoming album also features appearances from Al Di Meola, Jerry Goodman (Weather Report), Jan Akkerman, Bootsy Collins, Didier Malherbe (Gong), Steve Stevens, Chris Poland (Megadeth), Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report) and more.

    The word is New

Local Heroes SW9 “New Opium” / #KevinArmstrong “How the West Was Won” 1981

This was a split LP, Local Heroes SW9 side A, Armstrong's solo work side B. Armstrong formed Local Heroes SW9 in 1980. They released “Drip Dry Zone” on Oval Records that year, and this ‘half album’ was their final release. Thomas Dolby played keyboards on two tracks; Armstrong would return the favor several years later, playing guitar on Dolby’s first two albums.

“New Opium” was prickly, shimmery #PostPunk, political, didactic, but with a light touch and, dare I say, optimism. The title track flirts with dub, not unlike what #JahWobble would bring to his future projects on Oval.

A streaming compilation, “Drip Dry Zone & New Opium” was released in 2008. With audible surface noise at some points, this has to be a straight vinyl rip; to my knowledge, neither has ever been mastered for CD, nor has the vinyl been reissued.

  16. #PiL (Public Image Limited) live in 1979. The #SexPistols were chronically overrated, and PiL the inverse (both were fronted/founded by #JohnLydon). A band way ahead of its time, with a caustic but crafty entropy in its sonic DNA. This lineup features the bass growl of #JahWobble and guitar by the late, great #KeithLevene: youtube.com/watch?v=SzjWwfCJ65

    #postpunk #johnnyrotten

  17. I watched this because it had #JahWobble and #KeithLevene
playing together again, but I was struck by singer Nathaniel Maverick's ability to sing like #JohnLydon that ended up striking most strongly: youtube.com/watch?v=B2ko8VLiDn

  18. Jah Wobble & the Invaders of the Heart. (My spellcheck just turned that to Health which is the opposite of what is true). At the midpoint between #dubreggae #jazz & #postpunk is definitely the place to be. #jahwobble #jazzcafe #camden #London last night. #livemusic
