Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago, 2008 on Jagjaguwar
This was self-released in 2007, but came out on Jagjaguwar in 2008. It would have been hard to imagine back then just how much impact Justin Vernon (as Bon Iver and under his own name) would have as a producer and collaborator. But it is just an excellent album all around: famously recorded by himself in a hunting cabin in Wisconsin, having left behind his life in Raleigh and his previous band. Perhaps one of the most impactful solo debuts of the 21st century (so far). My copy—via […]https://goatless.org/2026/08/02/bon-iver-for-emma-forever-ago-2008-on-jagjaguwar

Folk Bitch Trio, Now Would Be a Good Time, 2025 on Jagjaguwar
I was excited for this debut release, having caught Folk Bitch Trio (I hope this doesn't get me flagged for language in the fediverse) at SXSW in 2024 (at the Driskill in the Victorian Room). Gracie Sinclair, Heide Peverelle, and Jeanie Pilkington are a Melbourne Australia trio with an alternative approach to Americana, as the name suggests. Sort of like a Julia Jacklin fronted Crosby Stills & Nash as a girl-group, but also better than that suggests. My copy—direct from Jagjaguwar—is […]https://goatless.org/2026/06/26/folk-bitch-trio-now-would-be-a-good-time-2025-on-jagjaguwar

Bon Iver’s If Only I Could Wait (feat. #DanielleHaim) is a delicate, aching duet wrapped in shimmering strings & flickering synths. A standout from SABLE, fABLE (out 4/11 via #JAGJAGUWAR), it’s pure Bon Iver magic. 🎶💫 #BonIver #BestNewMusic2025 #Week11

Bon Iver kicks off the SABLE, fABLE era with “Everything Is Peaceful Love,” a song that trades cryptic for candid, wrapped in warm pedal steel and shimmering vocals. A reminder that joy is survival. New album out April 11 via #Jagjaguwar

Angel Olsen, Whole New Mess, 2020 on Jagjaguwar
Whole New Mess presents new takes on the tracks from Angel Olsen‘s 2019 All Mirrors: though actually the Whole New Mess versions were recorded earlier, in 2018 at The Unknown, a studio in a former church in Anacortes Washington. (It is labeled as “the primer and precursor to All Mirrors“).
It was produced by Michael Harris and mixed by John Congleton, but is just Olsen and her guitar where All Mirrors had a full band.
She performed earlier this year at the Cabot Theatre – great show which I neglected to post about here.
My copy via Waterloo Records in Austin TX

Bon Iver drops "THINGS BEHIND THINGS BEHIND THINGS" on new EP "SABLE,". First teased in 2020, it's a raw look at anxiety and self-doubt. Recorded at April Base, it's Bon Iver getting back to basics.

S. Carey, Break Me Open, 2022 on Jagjaguwar
S. Carey (aka Sean Carey) is the drummer and backing vocalist from Bon Iver – he put out a solo album All We Grow back in 2010. Break Me Open is his fourth full length under the S. Carey moniker, all on Jagjaguwar – though he has put out some EPs as well.
It’s a dark album – Amanda Wicks on Pitchfork called it “bleak” – but I actually really love the sound and the mood. Maybe it’s just […]
