Guys. I have a problem. Left is vanilla, original version of the game. Right is the 1.13 big giant mod that adds a shit ton of more stuff.
It's just been like 2 months. According to this I first launched the game on June 23rd.
And this post was drafted... The screenshot is out of date. v1.13 is up to 198h 23m
Help... I can't stop playing. The amount of "just one more turn" is killing me.

So, I've REALLY taken to Jagged Alliance 2. Still doing my first vanilla playthrough (84 hours and counting), but I liked the game so much I set up a second install with the v1.13 mod and have used that to write my own mod and turned my 1.13 game into a sort of background idle game.
I am playing my 1.13 install without using ANY time compression. When I am done and waiting, I just have my IMP merc sit in a sector and keep the game focused on them, causing the clock to advance in real-time. So, while troops are moving, healing, doing anything that takes hours in game, I am waiting those real-time hours. It's completely changing the way I experience the game.
Right now some of my mercs are really hurt and will likely be out of commission for days. I need to be more careful in the future.
While I'm waiting, I can open up my vanilla install and play Jagged Alliance 2 while I'm playing Jagged Alliance 2.... insert Xzibit meme here.
I mentioned that I made my own mod. I coded in something to make my real-time experience a little more casual. I made it so that every 24 hours, if a mercenary died, they become available to hire again. It basically revives them... but the game still retains any injuries they may have incurred while dying. So, getting shot in the head and losing 18 points of wisdom? Yup... they still lost them, AND I lost all the money, AND I still took the reputation hit of having them die... plus I have to wait real time days for them to become available again, and for them to arrive back in Arulco, and for them to get equipped and back to work.
But since I'm reviving mercs, I figured I'd play the game with the optional v1.13 zombie mod. If my people can come back, I guess all of my opponents can come back too. Arulco is a crazy background sandbox idle game for me and I'm having a blast.

A Space Opera RPG campaign styles after Jagged Alliance and Cryo's Dune would be pretty cool.

#pnpde -
I was quite curious about #JaggedAlliance 2 when it came out 25 years ago, but somehow I never got around to trying it out until now.
This game is amazing.
This is literally peak 90s. (Though more early 90s than late 90s.)
At character creation for a female mercenary leader, the game had me on board with the first question!

#UFOEnemyUnknown or #JaggedAlliance?
For me, UFO for sure is the much more intricate, detailed, deep game. But those tactical battles just take *so* long! Plus, Jagged Alliance's mercenaries have a lot more character. What's your take?

Platz 7:
