I recommend reading #JacquesEllul "Le fascisme, fils du libéralisme" ("Fascism, son of Liberalism, 1937).
Ellul was an eye-witness of fascism in Italy, Germany and Spain. He argued that fascism is a method, not an ideology, a technology of the social. By using industrial organization methods it turns a society into a totalitarian enterprise.

Ellul's 1965 book "Propaganda - The Formation of Men's Attitudes" looks very promising:
seeding minds with incoherent education (pre-propaganda !), building blocks for beliefs that I'm susceptible for.

Tiens, c'est le 30e anniversaire de la mort de #JacquesEllul. S'il a pu dire de très grosses conneries à l'occasion, c'est sur beaucoup de sujets un auteur extrêmement pertinent, sans doute l'un de celleux qui m'a le plus inspiré.
