I love this song. How come I never saw the video until tonight?

On this 45th anniversary of #MTV ‘s launch and while vibe coding my own AppleTV app to create the MTV of my youth it’s worth reminding everyone of this great site to relive the days when #IWantMyMTV meant something https://wantmymtv.org/player.html

The nice thing about Mastodon is, that even while I’m on a news blackout and filter out politics, the really important stuff, like MTV killing its music channels in the uk, always gets through…

In my head cannon, the videos for Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' - You Got Lucky, Billy Ocean's - Loverboy, and Rick Springfield's - Human Touch take place in a shared, MTV universe.

The Beatles' "Now And Then" music video is a goofy little time capsule 📺 🎧 🎶
Peter Jackson used never-before-seen footage of The Beatles to craft a final "short film" for "Now And Then"
"Now that it has been released, the music video is not unlike the song itself: sentimental and nostalgic, if veering on cheesy at times. It works best when focused on the archival footage of the band working on the track"

CW: 19 Hungary - "Running" - Kállay-Saunders
#TracksAndField was invented to mark the World Athletics championships.
The only place World Athletics gets to bully people is in disreputable places - this year, Budapest.
András Kállay-Saunders sings from the perspective of a woman escaping an abusive relationship. It was entered by Magyar TV (shown as "Hungary" on screen) at the Senior Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

The Internet Archive has a good collection of bootleg early MTV footage (converted from VHS tapes) but does anyone know of other online repositories... perhaps ones with higher quality conversions? Please repost. #mtv #musicvideos #vintagemtv #retro #vhs #internetarchive #iwantmymtv

I use a slightly garish MacOS X Leopard gtk theme JUST BECAUSE it has usable scrollbars.
Doesn't help much with Firefox, though.
And who's bloody genius idea was it to HIDE the bloody things when you're not using them? I'd like to know where I am in my document, thank you, arsehole gormless dandy zoomer UI designers.

I posted a cool video yesterday of Billy Idol doing a recent kind-of unplugged concert on youtube, and it just reminded me of the MTV era. Once MTV exploded, so many other cable channels wanted to have some kind of music shows, so there was live concerts or videos on all of the time. I guess youtube has taken its place, but it just seemed to be more fun back in the day. Maybe because it was kind of a new thing.
