@Joshua A.C. Newman Oh yeah, i've an uncle myself, who was restoring Louis XVI sofas. I remember having to be VERY careful with those ;) But hey, i wasn't, and my uncle did get that message for sure. More an instrument itself is a sofa, where nobody sits on it. So back to the piano: regardless of whatever player might do with or to it, i prefer the players, not the pianos.

Will have to check out Suzanne Ciani. However what i grasp from your description is, that she is a great player, regardless of her instrument. Again a human story.
