What the fuck is Mordaunt on about? Raising CGT rates will not make it more expensive for families to sell their houses! You don't pay CGT on your primary residence. Why on earth didn't Rayner point that out to her?

Honestly, I don’t want to see another one of these debates where the moderator doesn’t have the ability to cut someone’s mike.
-
Wow and Sunak talks right over the (female) moderator from the get-go too. Even when asked several times not to.
I knew it was coming and I was still shocked.

Watching yesterday’s #ITVdebate (yeah I know how to have fun) and right off the first question about the cost of living crisis there’s only one person that said “I’m really sorry you’re in that situation.”
Rishi Sunak has no single speck of empathy within him.
-
James Bowler, the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, wrote to Sunak asking him not to associate the: 'Labour will cost £2,000 per family', claim with the Civil Service, as he did on last night's #ITVDebate
But in this post-truth world, the maxim is to win at all costs, and thus Sunak lied to the cameras, the audience, and ultimately the nation

Here's the letter calling out #Sunak and his lies. It would be awful if it was shared to a wider audience.

Who the hell in #labour team preparing for the #itvdebate didn’t think that Sunak wasn’t going to to lie his lying arse off & didn’t prepare for the £2k tax lie? It’s like they came to a knife fight holding a banana. #progressive parties do this too often and we lose elections because of it. Elections are not a gentlemanly joust & Labour’s pre-work was simply not good enough. There are no second chances here. They either play to the dirty #Tories or forget their chances of winning big. #gtto
-
It seems that Sunak’s claim that Labour would raise taxes by £2,000 was a straight up lie and Sunak knew it. #itvdebate
-
Has #SunaktheLiar stepped into a trap? He blasted out his lies re £2K tax on #ITVDebate. Now the Permanent Sec to Treasury pours cold water on Sunak's lies. Sunak now equalling #Johnson for lying & stupidity. https://rb.gy/nssiiw #rejoinEU #ToryLiars #ToryGasLighting #ToryCorruption

@Geri
I’m fucking furious that Starmer didn’t bring up #Sunak Betting against the UK.Also: Sunak going all shrill ‘Bad Cop’ on Starmer about negotiating with doctors.
“What are YOU going to do about it?”
All he demonstrated was why wankers like him are so bad at negotiating.Starmer should have suggested to the audience that RS’s shouty, thin skinned belligerence was precisely WHY negotiations got nowhere.
Instead he just said we’d ‘get round the table’. 70’s speak.
-
General points: whilst RS may have 'landed more blows,' it was the matter of the audience laughing at him that may be most telling.

“There were plotters, there was no doubt about it. Some had been ordinary people who'd had enough. Some were young people with no money who objected to the fact that the world was run by old people who were rich.”

I was generally pretty impressed with #AnushkaAsthana as the host of the #ITVDebate with the "other parties" leaders, but I wish she would have picked up #RichardTice claim that less than 10% of climate change is human-caused. According to the vast majority of #climate scientists it's closer to 100%
-
…That said, both leaders could remember the questioners’ names, so when the floorboards of our civilisation give way, we’ll at least know who got hurt
-
To everyone in the media having a blue fit this morning about that woeful #itvdebate
Blue team - Sunak did this to hurt Starmer
Red Team - Starmer did this to hurt Sunak!
Sunak hurt himself by being himself - techty & rude.
Starmer hurt himself by being too slow to refute some of the things being said.
However, I think we all know for all the spin that each side is putting on this we all can remember 'I agree with Nick'!
Did that have any impact upon who people voted for????
-
I saw about 3 questions’ worth of the #itvdebate last night. It was as facile as I expected.
The dynamic of it was something like this:
Q: these floorboards and the ones of the floor beneath and the ones of the floor beneath that, are riddled with dry rot. How will you make this building safe?
Sunak: our oil investments will allow us to put a nice oil finish on all the floors
Starmer: that’s ridiculous! We will use wax

"It was almost inevitable that Tetchy Rishi would make an appearance. It always does when he’s under pressure. Being found out. He started getting snippy, continually talking over Starmer."

#extraordinary to be watching #Peston saying how extraordinary it was that Keir didn’t rebut Sunaks £2k lie early in the debate. Not least because when he tried, the moderator repeatedly cut him off. It’s even more extraordinary that Peston and nobody else on ITN seemed to want to talk about the ineffectiveness of Julie Etchingham’s moderation. #itvdebate
