Being honest the best part on the island starts after 17:30 as most shops are closing and the biggest part of the crowd is leaving.
So I used the time for some shots while waiting for the sunset.

I am always fascinated that you can simply leave your stuff everywhere and nothing gets stolen.
Backpack, cellphone, camera, etc. everything will still be there :D

I decided to go up to the top of the mountain.
Depending how fit you are it is around 30-45min one way.
You should take a bottle of water with you as the sun can burn down massively.

The peak of the island is Mount Misen, at 535 metres, is the highest point on the island.
There is the Miyajima Ropeway which you can take to get closer to the top.

Itsukushima is worldwide known for the big red torii standing in the sea.
The sea is affected by strong tides. At low tide, the bottom of the sea is exposed past the island's torii. At high tide, the sea covers all the previously exposed seabed mud and fills areas underneath the shrine boardwalk.

Itsukushima is an island in the Inland Sea of Japan, it is better known as Miyajima which in Japanese means "Shrine Island".
The island is one of Hayashi Gahō's "Three Views of Japan" specified in 1643.

You can go there via different ferries like hourly from Hiroshima harbour or every 20 minutes with JR Miyajima ferry or Miyajima Matsudai Tourist Ship from Miyajimaguchi.
