A client asked for a server install for a specific CRM developed by one of Italy's biggest software houses. They’re dropping Windows Server 2022 support in a few months, even though the OS itself has a much longer lifecycle.
We looked into Linux support: Rocky Linux 9 and Ubuntu 24.04 are "certified", but only until April 2027. Since we'd rather not reinstall everything in less than a year, we asked for a path that guarantees official support beyond 2027.
The "support" team replied with a canned response, attaching a 2023 document where every single distribution is listed as EoL since 2025. 🤡
And then people ask me why these "software giants" are the primary cause of my receding hairline...

Cleaning out a closet in my office, I’m pretty sure I just regained 15 sq ft of space in our house just from picking up and organizing the random cables scattered all over the floor. Everything is now sorted and labeled and it’s beautiful.

CW: Work day RANT.
Today was an absolute crap show. Rant/long post incoming...
Before I event get into the office, actually getting right out of my car, I get texted that a client's label maker (one's that they use with a third-party dealership software) isn't printing. Mind you, this client is in the town I work in and I work about 30 mins away.
I call them and evidentially it stopped working yesterday afternoon. Ugh, I could have went by before driving to work this morning. LOL. So I check and make sure that they are indeed connect to our network before calling the third-party and starting the dance with them.
Anyways, I end up having to head back to Amarillo and go to the clients location and start the process with the third-party.
Oh, and while I was heading to the client's, I get a text that another printer at the location isn't printing (which also connects to this system).
Then when I get to the location, another text comes in that printers at another one of their locations are having issues with their printers that are tied to this system. Now my IT sense are tingling and I'm pretty sure something is going on here with that third-party.
I finally get on the phone with them and they investigate. Come to find out, every single printer that connects to this third-party that allows the software to print has been removed. OMG! Removed for both of the locations!!! So now I have to get every printer's make, model, ip, mac, and information for department and who uses it for them so we can get them all set back up in this system. What a damn pain in the ass.
To make things even better, one of the accounting people, a printer they use (aside from this mess), isn't printing from her computer. 😭 At this point I am frustrated and that is not good in this industry. I get to investigating our network, etc. I can see this printers MAC on the switch but it's not registering the static IP that we have set for it. I have tried multiple ports at the drop. Rebooted the switch. Now I go to switch it to dhcp so it can just grab a random ip just to do some testing. At this point I am able to see an IP via the switch but it is not our networks octet. WTH?!
Come to find out, for some reason, something is handing out different IPs that are not on our networks octet. Now I am running around trying to figure out what in this network could be going rogue and handing IPs out. The only thing I can think of it the damn Cicso Meraki from this third-party for the printer connections. So I call them back and talk to them. Somehow in this mess, this meraki isn't in theri system for this location and client. They can't find it. Son of a ... You have got to be kidding me!! SO what probably has happened is, it's probably reset to default setting and is now handing out IPs to anything it can.
So yeah, my day was an absolute crap show. Just another printer nightmare day every IT person dreads.
And before @cliffwade says anything about printers, because I know he will, DON'T DO IT!

As LE phases out expiration emails I really wish they would send a list of all the domains associated with the email. This may sound ridiculous but I don't exactly know all the domains I should start monitoring. Some are web verified some are DNS verified some are behind wild cards or for testing idk but I just hate the idea of missing something important until it's too late.

I love finding broken code after an update. Suddenly it's a fatal exception and probably used to be just a warning but the function needed an array and instead someone put "'sadasd'" which truly feels like a keyboard-slap-place-holder value that has sat there for years at this point. The value is replaced later in code but it's also not required so the fix today is literally just delete the code...

Recent client issue...
Client: I have no sound
Me: Okay, are your speakers plugged in?
Client: Yes
Me: Where?
Client: In the front of computer.
Me: In headphone jack?
Clients: Yes, that's where they've always been.
Me: Hmm, okay. Well can you try and plug them into the back of computer in the green jack?
Client: Okay
Me: ....waiting
Client: Okay, still nothing coming out.
Me: Weird. settings is still saying nothing is plugged in.'Tried some other things and he gave me some more information about some other stuff.'
Me: Okay I will head there to check some stuff out.
...
I get there and immediately look at the back of the computer...
The damn speakers are plugged into the BLUE jack NOT the GREEN jack.
I plug them into the green jack and sound immediately starts to come from the speakers!
Client: Oh, WOW. I though that was green. Looks green to me.
Me: screaming silently -

I can't tell if I'm too smart or too dumb for this current Parallels issue.
Can't sign into Apple ID unless your host and guest both have macOS 15.3 beta or higher (15.3 beta fixed the Apple ID issue).
However, there are no ISOs for betas anymore. You have to download the updater by ... signing in with your Apple ID.
So they tell you to update both your host (done ✔️) and guest (how?!?) to 15.3 beta.
Is this some kind of joke or is there some other solution that just never gets mentioned?
