I just watched it last night, but my initial impression is that it's one of my all-time favorite #horror #movies.
That includes #ItFollows, #NightOfTheLivingDead, #AGirlWalksHomeAloneAtNight, #LåtDenRätteKommaIn, #GetOut, #Sinners, and #Nosferatu: #ASymphonyOfHorror.
I generally don't like horror because it seemed to be mostly #slasher #gore porn for decades, and I literally can't stomach that.
Movies like these have gore but don't center it, exploring broader themes.

The Witch is very good and absolutely beautiful.
Atmospheric more than terrifying, it's a creepy horror that kind of feels like Picnic at Hanging Rock in its beauty and unnerving ambiguity, and It Follows in its relentless ratcheting up of dread.

Appena visto #Longlegs: un #film che vede protagonisti #MaikaMonroe (ormai famosa per #itfollows) e il sempiterno #NicolasCage: lei è un'agente dell'FBI "quasi" sensitiva che si ritrova ad indagare su #serialkiller ed una serie di omicidi inspiegabili lunghi quasi un ventennio, nella cupa e depressa America di provincia. Devo dire un'ottima prova del regista #OsgoodPerkins, che firma anche la sceneggiatura, con un'opera molto suggestiva: il film 1/5

#ItFollows is the most disturbing #horror #movie I've ever seen, including #NightOfTheLivingDeafd, which traumatized 10 year old me back in 1968 (the gas station and basement scenes, especially).
Although I understand and probably agree with the interpretation in this video (I'll need to rewatch it to be sure), for me the "It" in It Follows struck me as #depression, at least in part, because I was deep in depression when it was released, and this is how it felt.

W ramach oglądania tzw. nowych horrorów obejrzałem w piątek „It Follows” z 2014 roku.
Cykl zacząłem od „Smile” (2022) oraz „Barbarian” (2022). O ile „Smile” całkiem poważnie traktuje różne motywy horrorowe, a „Barbarian” trochę bawi się konwencją, tak „It Follows” składa hołd stylistyczny starym horrorom (szczególnie pierwsze „Halloween”, które choć zapoczątkowało slashery, to samo w sobie nim nie jest; ot paradoks). Duża tu zasługa nie tylko strony wizualnej (praca kamery czy paleta kolorystyczna), ale też muzyki elektronicznej, która przywodzi na myśl motyw muzyczny z filmu Johna Carpentera.
Historia jest dość prosta, ale nie będę nic spojlował. Film został oparty na śnie, który reżyser miał jako dziecko, w którym ktoś go śledził. „It Follows” doskonale oddaje tę atmosferę i od pewnego momentu z niepokojem przyglądałem się wydarzeniom w tle.
Wspomniałem już warstwę wizualną, ale chciałbym nieco rozwinąć, ponieważ jest tu naprawdę dobrze. Akcja osadzona jest w Detroit w swoistym bezczasie, aczkolwiek pasującym najbardziej do lat 80.: w filmie jest jeden telefon komórkowy oraz jeden e-czytnik, poza tym królują stare telewizory, bohaterowie oglądają stare filmy oraz jeżdżą starymi samochodami. Bardzo mi się to podobało.
Już po tym, jak zdecydowałem się obejrzeć „It Follows”, szukałem filmów nawiązujących stylistyką do przestrzeni liminalnych i ten film znalazł się na liście. W przeciwieństwie do np. „Dimland”, gdzie bohaterka trafiała z tajemniczym stworzeniem leśnym do przestrzeni „między wymiarami”, tutaj mamy klasyczne bezludne miejsca nocą, całe ulice ulice opuszczonych domów (Detroit!) oraz powolną pracę kamery. Wizualnie jestem zachwycony.
Ogólnie polecam, chociaż bałem się wracać po ciemku do sypialni po seansie. Na pewno jest to moja ulubiona pozycja z trzech tu wymienionych.

Oooooh! One of the best scary flicks of recent years, #ItFollows, is getting something of a sequel!
I am hopeful as the original director and lead actress are returning, but also somewhat dreading the allure of the original will be diminished if this does not come out right.
EDIT: Not so recent anymore, it came out in 2014, so nearly ten years ago... Time flies...
