    From your article:

    > The only area where this investment retrenchment and uncertainty is not in evidence comes from the insane capital expenditures for AI computing power, which is propping up the economy almost by itself.

@brianmerchant had a great appearance on KQED's Forum.

They discussed, among other things, that aspect of things, the potential bubble in which the US economy is being propped up by all of that capital flowing into data centers.

Meanwhile, the good people over at It Could Happen Here dive into successful efforts by #noDesertDataCenter to block an Amazon data center in #Tuscon AZ of all places.

    YUP.

Lotsa overlap + intersectionality in the way politicians of all stripes dehumanize the unhoused and how politicians (especially the Republicans) demonize and dehumanize immigrants.

Great conversation here between Theo Henderson, host of podcast "We The Unhoused", and James Stout:

  7. In the last hour, I have gotten two emails--from entities I did not subscribe to--that said "This bill is terrifying" and "This video is terrifying". People, you're doing it wrong. As #ItCouldHappenHere explained so well this week, the reason the fascists can flood the zone so effectively is because they're hijacking our nervous systems and compromising our ability to notice what's going on. Stop trying to make sure I'm "terrified" to make your point; it's not helping #FightFascism

    > I think I finally understand what's going on in his brain, which is that he has convinced himself that like, if you have a trade deficit with a country, that means the country's robbing you.

    > Trump's firm, lifelong belief is that if you are selling something, you've won, and if you're buying something, you have lost.

    > Europeans were perfectly happy to buy American tech und military exports, thus earning U.S. money and making EU technologically and politically dependent from the U.S. - it really was perfect for the U.S. But the US decided that it was actually a BAD DEAL and they wanted to extort even more money and dependence from EU. So now EU is investing in their own tech and military, thus reducing the amount of money US is getting and also reducing EU's dependency on the US, thus forcing EU to invest in their own tech & military, thus becoming a competitor to the US products. Your boy trump did do deliver, is the US now GREAT enough for you yet?

  17. CW: US politics, fascism, hope, link to a blog post

#RobertEvans says so many profound things in this post on #USPolitics, #Fascism, and where we go from here to try to build a better world as the one we've known burns around us. It's achingly realistic, acknowledges the exhaustion so many of us feel, and yet also gives #hope:

"The larger solutions to our common woes, if they ever arrive, will be something new. Something we haven’t tried yet. I feel very confident they won’t take the form of another march or involve everyone finally agreeing to be the same kind of communist/anarchist/whatever. Shawn Fain, chief of the United Auto Workers Union, has called for a General Strike in 2028, and that so far is the only clear plan I’ve heard anyone make that feels like it has a ghost of a chance...half of why I support the idea is because it IS audacious...Shit can be different, but not unless we’re willing to try different shit."

  19. I found this to be a really insightful discussion on the vibes + economics behind inflation.

Part of the thesis is that “inflation needn’t be so complicated; it’s ‘prices go up’.”

Getting my *shocked pikachu* face for the #tariffs and general fuckery wreaking havoc on the precious, precious US + global economy.
