Attending an abroad conference in awareness of climate crisis urgency comes with serious dissonance. Against this background I really appreciate the plans by the SWSA towards more sustainability of the #ISWC as announced at #ISWC2023 townhall. Of course, emission avoidance is better than emission compensation and ~2 flights / participant is of matter. But as also elaborated in the session, there is no realistic alternative.

Already yesterday, Maxime Lefrançois presented at #ISWC2023 "The SAREF Pipeline and Portal — An Ontology Verification Framework" showcasing the comprehensive use of #GitLab based CI/CD pipelines for the development and publication of #ontologies and #RDF data. I wished, this degree of automation would become the default in the #SemanticWeb community.

In his #iswc2023 keynote Gerhard Weikum is suggesting to break down the monolithic approach to Large Language Models in an architectural framework for knowledge acquisition, consisting of a search engine component for source discovery, llms for contextualization and language understanding and neuro-symbolic inference mechanisms for extracting the correct results.
