Thought of the day: having lots of open issues in your project isn't a problem. "Stale issue" bots are doing way more harm than unanswered issues.

The absolute most frustrating thing on #github is someone closing your issue and snarkily telling you to do a search for duplicates before you post, when you did in fact do a search, you did in fact find the "related" issue already, and there appears to be no connection to the two problems in any way, other than the fact that you are both using the same software. :pepe_g:

One of the companies that worked for at the beginning of my career, I’ve introduced them to the concept of issue management software and their notion of version control was saving WinRar archives on a Windows XP shared drive.

#Discord is one of the WORST TOOLS EVER since it's #bloated like #Windows, unsearchable like #Slack, full of illegal tracking shit like #MicrosoftTeams and doesn't add any value compared to #IRC or #Zulip + #Mumble or #JitsiMeet.

Espechally if people abuse it for things that it was never good in, like #IssueTracking, #Support, #Documentation etc.

Everyone who even suggests using Discord for that is an ableist asshole who loves #LoginWalls and should be banned!

@poofdyke I'm not shure if this is a good idea, as documentation should be accessible in a static way even if it's being worked on dynamically in the background.

There is a reason tools like #git are being used.
There are reasons to use issue trackers and entire suites like #GitLab and #gitea for that.

OFC you can do #bots that pust changes like @pkgsrcchanges and @linux do into the :activitypub: :fediverse: ...
Also one could allow #BugReporting and #IssueTracking to be accessible via it too.

On a related note to the above, I totally respect the right of any open source dev to share anything they write on the basis of "I found this useful, here is is for your information, but I have neither time nor inclination to support it". I've done it myself before and will again.

But I beseech you, in the bowels of Linux, if you aren't going to take issues, which, as I said, you by no means have to, turn off the issue tracker on GitHub , or whatever you're using.

It's rude to imply promises that you aren't actually making.

@george I explicitly refuse to use and consider any #FLOSS or #CCSS that does essential stuff like #IssueTracking and #documentation on #Discord.

Because Discord is a shitty app made for and by problematic people.

And unlike a lot of bad CCSS they can't even be botherered to setup a proper #repo for #Updates and literally expect users to download and install a #deb package based off a #popup.

So yeah.
It's trash.
