This was one of my favourite pictures from my recent holiday in Scotland. I realised that I'm drawn towards trees and water when looking through the pictures I took. If you get the chance I recommend seeing Mount Stuart as it was an amazingly decorated stately home with the family's passions and interests on show

West Island Way Day 3
My final day of the West Island Way and longer walk started early in the morning under a gloomy sky. From Ettrick Bay, I headed inland to walk along the bottom of Glen More on a road and later track. Reaching the northern tip of Bute, I wandered for miles through a plantation, diverting from the trail for a wonderful view over the Kyles of Bute. Conditions didn't improve after I left the woods, with a long slog through boggy moorland to the highest point of the island. Finally, I reached the end of the trail far below, completing the northern loop at Port Bannatyne. From there it was an extremely long journey home, on buses, trains and a ferry, until I finally collapsed into the comfort of my own bed a little after midnight. -
West Island Way Day 2
My first full day on the West Island Way started strenuously, clambering up and down over the hills on the southern tip of the island. After that sweaty fun, I crossed from the east coast to west and back again, over flat lands the first time then high on the moors and past long lochs the second. The walking calmed down once the trail had passed the island's main town of Rothesay, mostly following minor roads high above the eastern coast, before crossing the pass to the sweeping Ettrick Bay on the west. Chased by a thunderstorm for the final stretch, I quickly pitched up at a rather busy spot and hoped to catch some sleep ahead of my final day. -
West Island Way Day 1
From the Ayrshire Coastal Path, I took the ferry to the Isle of Bute, where a dirty bus journey dropped me off in Kilchattan Bay, at the start of the West Island Way. After only a mile and a half of scrambling over rocky ground, I pitched up in the remote Glencallum Bay with another person that I had met on the way. -
