Although the level of moisture flowing through the sky doesn’t have a one-to-one relationship with rainfall amounts, having more moisture can boost the odds for rainfall extremes, if there’s a force to squeeze that moisture out, such as the cluster of thunderstorms that hit the #GrandCanyon.

This weekend, there was an additional force at play. Moisture from the remnants of #TropicalStorm #Iselle was flowing across the West, siphoned inland by a #HeatDome & further waterlogging the atmosphere.

The trains are #Swiss🇨🇭: #BLS is operating regional passenger services and a car-carrying tunnel shuttle from #Brig.

Impressions from our ride on the #Iselle 🇮🇹 to #Kandersteg🇨🇭car-carrying train yesterday: passing two major alpine railway tunnels, #Simplon (almost 20 kms long) and #Lötschberg (15 kms), the trip lasts about an hour: time for breakfast, or a nap, while staying in one’s own car.

scenic railways: the #Lötschberg south ramp. Travellers can even enjoy the views down to the #Rhone valley from their own vehicle, when using an #Iselle 🇮🇹 (#Simplon) to #Kandersteg🇨🇭(#Lötschberg) car-carrying through train. Photo taken today at sunrise.

Taking the #BLS🇨🇭 regional train at #Iselle di Trasquera 🇮🇹, at the south portal of the #Simplon tunnel. The lovely station comes with some old railway charm. The “losange” type “logo inclinato” of the Italian Railways FS, introduced in the early 1980s, is still very much present.
