Two things that sci-fi fans of my vintage used to do that are now obsolete. One was holding a microphone up to the television's speaker to record an episode of Doctor Who or Star Trek. The other was taking photographs of the telly.

Remembering Irwin Allen, who was born 110 years ago today. Flawed though his sci-fi productions were, they gave me a great deal of joy growing up, especially The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants.
Here he is directing Don Marshall and Gary Conway on the set of the very first episode of Land of the Giants. The fact that the Spindrift crash-landed on the giant world on 12 June was a deliberate in-joke.

Remembering the wonderful James Darren on what would have been his 90th birthday. For many fans, he's Star Trek DS9's lounge-singing hologram Vic Fontaine. But to this 1960s kid, he’ll forever be my childhood hero, Dr Tony Newman, lost in the depths of The Time Tunnel.
As a boy I'd go somersaulting around the play park in a green turtleneck sweater, pretending to be Tony arriving "somewhere along the infinite corridors of time". Happy memories.

Here we have a promotional Land of the Giants badge. Well, here in the UK we'd call it a badge; in the States it's a button or a pin. Whatever you want to call it, it was produced in the 1960s, and as a little boy I would have worn it proudly if only it had been available in the UK.
I have to say, though, the wording puzzles me. Why has "are" been changed to "is"? This might be a question that one of my American friends can answer for me.

I used to love this show, and the other two shared productions.
As an 8-9 year old, they were more fun than the much more serious in tone, Star Trek, which I also enjoyed.
When the douchebros complain about effects in tv and movies now, I roll my eyes over their ignorance and wish for the bros to disappear.

Land of the Giants listing from TV Times, dated 28th April, 1972.
My nine year-old self was delighted by the publicity picture. Such things were to be treasured back then, and I recall carefully cutting this one out and pasting it into my scrapbook.
Funnily enough, the exact same picture appeared in TV Times the following week. That was fine, though—I could never have too many pictures of Land of the Giants.

@karlos During the course of The Time Tunnel's run, Doug and Tony don't hesitate to use guns when they are forced to. Thankfully, as The Time Tunnel universe was governed by the self-consistency principle, our heroes are unable to create paradoxes or alternate time-lines. The can't change history because they were always a part of it (something the writers of the Big Finish reboot completely failed to understand).
