I took way too much time in between getting Iron Widow and reading it. But when I did, what a ride. An entertaining rage-inducing masterpiece that has few parallels in its joyful celebration of the beauty of humanity when pushed to its darkest realm.

A feminist celebration of the destruction of patriarchy finely balanced with just enough stakes that the hard decisions when made feels genuinely compelling.

Naturally building up a loving polycule that is heartbreakingly romantic in a fucked up world.

The ending that proves the point that a well-written novel gives you enough hints to solve the murder mystery yourself, and the reveal while shocking, makes perfect sense.

Truly a modern day masterpiece. #books #IronWidow

Magic Mecha Gay Space Communism yay

The book is called "Heavenly Tyrant" so I suspect this might crash and burn sooner rather than later but still props for going there full steam ahead. Still not a shred of subtlety but eh, the series is practically anime in a book form.

I just finished Iron Widow & Zachary Ying by Xiran Jay Zhao, The Empress of Salt And Fortune by Nghi Vo, and also the Mo Dao Zu Shi manhua (adapted from the Mo Xiang Tong Xiu novel).

What those have in common is that they are all queer and all inspired by Imperial China to various degrees... and I'd love to read more!

Does anybody have any recs of more queer books set in China or even better in some settings inspired by Imperial China (this includes xianxia for instance).

I have to say that I'm not really looking for more danmei to read, I would prefer very queer stories by queer authors such as the Xiran Jay Zhao books, but I know that's a lot to ask for :blobOh:
