  1. KEEPING UP WITH MOVEMENT

One must keep moving or expect muscular or joint pain, especially as one ages. Consistent movement activates and strengthens the muscles, gets the blood flowing, moves the joints, creating a natural lubricant called synovial fluid and reduces stiffness and long-term degeneration. It is clear that activity and movement need to be integrated into life, but not easy to actually […]

  2. Nice bike ride on the Iron Horse Regional Trail in San Francisco/Oakland north East Bay area

We stayed in Dublin CA Friday night for a Saturday morning 42 mile bike ride my wife and some of our friends did as part of the women's only Cinderella bike ride. I’m told that it was a nice event and an enjoyable course.

As for me, I decided to explore the Iron Horse Regional Trail on a 32 mile out and back from Dublin past Danville to my Walnut Creek turnaround. It’s a very nice paved trail 10 or so feet wide with 50 yards or so of open space and trees along the way. It was originally a rail line, so the trail is flat and mostly straight, something I’m not used to living in the Santa Cruz area.

Along the way the trail is bordered by neighborhoods and schools. It’s a well used trail with lots of runners, walkers, and families with kids and dogs, mostly locals, presumably.

    It’s a bike trail I’d recommend.

  7. #BikeNite A1: Just got back home from the #KitchenerBluesFest. Not by bike, sadly. But I saw that #BikeKitchener had the Bike Parking Valet service running (free!), and the bike corral was quite full.

There are some Saskatoon Berries on the #IronHorseTrail, and loads of Mulberries. And Raspberries on the #TransCanadaTrail. There are also some that look like Strawberries, but apparently they're some kind of mimic; they're absolutely tasteless.

  8. Interested in gardening but have no access to land? Want to grow your own food but aren't sure where to start? Passionate about food security? Come out on April 13 for a volunteer meetup at ComeUnity Roots Garden and see what we're all about!

(and hopefully the snow will be gone by then so you can actually see the garden)

Yes, that's also the case with a lot of the Alberta "trail". I have hiked about 3/4 of the #IronHorseTrail in NE AB and while it's a true trail, it's designed for motorized vehicles including OHVs and snowmobiles, with such big rocks being the base. Walking a lot of stretches is extremely hard on the ankles. Still, there are several delightful stretches of trail.
