On March 16th, 2026, Canada permanently shut down Weatheradio Canada. 186 transmitter sites. 50 years of service. Gone overnight. Their replacement? A smartphone app.

Oh, BTW, and when I was very new to #AmateurRadio in 1986 I invented something very similar to #IRLP in my head, except that instead of being connected over the Internet, its backbone was a network of geostationary #HamRadio satellites!

@shish That photo is a better example of #IRLP. EchoLink is more like if the guy had an app on his phone instead of an HT (which I had to do once thanks to me not programming my radio correctly).
