  1. I despise Facebook's business practices and think Mark Zuckerberg is an evil psychopath.

That's why I'm excited to add this book to my listening list!

Sarah Wynn-Williams tells the wrenching but fun story of Facebook, mapping its rise from stumbling encounters with juntas to Mark Zuckerberg’s reaction when he learned of Facebook’s role in Trump’s election. She experiences the challenges and humiliations of working motherhood within a pressure cooker of a workplace, all while Sheryl Sandberg urges her and others to “lean in.”

Careless People is a deeply personal account of why and how things have gone so horribly wrong in the past decade—told in a sharp, candid, and utterly disarming voice. A deep, unflinching look at the role that social media has assumed in our lives, Careless People reveals the truth about the leaders of Facebook: how the more power they grasp, the less responsible they become and the consequences this has for all of us.

  2. Been there. In fact, it’s about time to do the whole crawl-into-bed-with-a-good-book thing. After Charlie Chaplin’s “Modern Times” on Turner Classic Movies.

What banned and challenged books have you read recently?

Love in the Library by Maggie Takuda-Hall, a lovely picture book depicting how the author's parents met & fell in love at a Japanese interment camp during WWII.

And the Last Trump Shall Sound--3 novellas by Harry Turtledove, James Morrow & Cat Rambo. It's alt near future history from Caezik SF.

  8. My uncle says the architects got rid of the front porches because they didn't look well. But my uncle says that was merely rationalizing it; the real reason, hidden underneath, might be they didn't want people sitting like that, doing nothing, rocking, talking; that was the wrong kind of social life. People talked too much. And they had time to think. So they ran off with the porches. And the gardens, too. - Ray Bradbury, “Fahrenheit 451”

  9. For this Banned Books Week/Top Ten Tuesday, I'm simply sharing a graphic from the American Library Association showing the top 13 most challenged books of 2022 (there were a few ties). Book bans and challenges have increased a horrifying 1053% since 2020. Support these authors and others in a similar situation by reading and requesting their books. introvertedreader.com/13-most-

  11. @raiaren @Miriamm #IReadBannedBooks in my case, the book was banned for HIPPA violation. The book "le grand secret" by Mitterrand's doctor Grubler told the story of his disease, how it was hidden to the french public, and how the French president was unable to govern at the end of his mandate.
Whether it's age appropriate is left as an exercise to the reader.

Banning books has always been a huge negative for me. It's a bad omen. When I was in elementary school the library had "banned" books removed from the shelves. Being a bibliophile that didn't sit well with me and I fought to get access; and eventually did. A small victory, but I credit that experience for determining my political (and religious) affiliation going forward. In highschool we had to read out loud a sanitized version of Romero and Juliet. I brought my own copy. The teacher would nod to me when we reached the missing text and I would read from my copy. My point is we don't have to comply.

  13. This evening I am grateful my daughter is a reader. When she asked me to buy this one for her, she opened with the enticing fact that the author’s books have been banned in several places. (We consider that a selling point in our household.) Needless to say, she owned a copy mere minutes later!
