When I voted for Jimmy Carter for president in 1976 I never thought he would be this weak. He was clumsily trying to end the #IranHostageCrisis with Iran but people who worked for him, such as Ambassador William Sullivan, were insulting him without being fired. His State Department and his National Security Council had different foreign policies: one was pro-Russia and the other was pro-China when Russians and Chinese hated each other.

At the time of the Iran Hostage Crisis I worked at the Federal Reserve Board. Since the US froze Iran’s US bank accounts, the Fed was in on the release negotiations, including a few of my colleagues. I remember in Fall 1980, one came back from an overseas negotiation & told me that the hostages wouldn’t be released until Inauguration day. I wondered if there was an agreement why wait the extra months?
Now the picture has come into focus.
