My guess, given this admin's brazen attempts at election manipulation and desperation to cling to power is that they are intentionally slowing SPR draws to cause a spike now and buy some runway, so that they can ramp back up right around midterms. If you look at the history of this thread, with long established averages in consideration we were going to wrap up a few weeks before midterms. Now it's basically day of...
Hear me out, if he authorizes an additional SPR draw, that causes media attention. But if they tweak stuff then they can solve a problem of their own making right before midterms. "See, prices are going down!"
I don't understand how they get away with it, but they always get credit for half-ass fixing problems that THEY created.

For the week ending 9/4, the SPR is now at 285360 (thousand barrels.) This decline was only 1244, far below average. This is the fourth week of slowing: 5268, 3700, 3122, 1244...
We're now below the 11/12/82 reading. There are only 11 historic data points left all from Aug-Nov 1982 when the SPR was being filled. Each week far deeper into uncharted territory.
🚧 Remember these numbers are a week delayed. Media will suddenly care, and this will all be on blast in real-time when something happens between these weekly EIA updates.
🚨 Important psychological threshold: At the revised average, we'll be at the lowest level recorded (Aug 1982) in less than three weeks, projecting 9/23 now, 9/17 week before.
🕦 EIA guessed the draw down committed in March would wrap up in 120 days, ~7/25. At the new average, we'll meet the goal around Oct 28 (Oct 20 last week.) As things slow the wrap up creeps closer to election day... How convenient!
🤔 What's causing the slow down? Is it intentional to stretch out the impacts until right after midterms? Or is the SPR reaching its limits?- SPR is down 31% since March.
