Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth took time off from the #IranWar which he is losing, and from his war against women in the America military, to ridicule women in Canada's military. He is right that a woman who is not physically fit should not wear the uniform of a soldier. He is wrong to insult our allies while Russia is helping Iran to kill American troops. What a captive Venezuelan supply _could_ do, however, is displace Canadian and Mexican suppliers who supply similar oil now. Given President Shitstain's sustained animus and aggression towards both countries, it's impossible to rule this out as a consideration.
Plus, stolen oil is cheaper than purchased oil, meaning bigger profits for his oil and gas company owners, er, friends, amirite or amirite?
As always, of course, the correct answer is _stop using oil_.

The US does, by contrast, have many refineries capable of processing this oil - many Gulf of Mexico and east coast US refineries have the required "coking" capability which essentially extracts carbon to make solid byproducts. But estimates from January say that at best, it might be possible to boost Venezuelan output by 2.3-2.4 Mbl/week in the short term; more would require years of sustained investment.
Further, US refineries are already running at essentially full capacity, meaning that even should some additional supply arrive, it would have very little impact other than improving refiner profitability, as coking-capable refineries are more profitable when actually coking oil.

A couple of notes:
President Shitstain's commentary about essentially stealing/seizing Venezuelan oil and using it to resupply US Strategic Petroleum Reserve supply is, as always, a lie. Venezuelan oil is a very heavy/tarry sour crude, not compatible with existing SPR facilities, and no, you can't just mix it all together and call it good. New facilities would have to be constructed. Obviously, this is entirely something that can be done. But it would take many years, and is exactly the wrong kind of investment to be making if you care about a civilization-compatible climate.

Commercial: 424,460 (-4450 from last week)
SPR: 286,604 (-3122 from last week)That's a 4.5 Mbl drop in commercial stocks, and a 3.1 Mbl drop in the strategic reserve, for a net drop of 7.6 Mbl. The five-week moving drawdown average for the SPR is now at 4.2 Mbl, with a raw extrapolation statutory tank bottom at 61 days from August 28th or 56 days from date of posting (2 Sept. 2026), or October 28th.
As always, I remind everyone that "tank bottom" does not mean no oil. There will be massive amounts of oil, just less than current demand. Prices will rise until demand falls to meet supply.
