  1. Telegraph completely invented a family in its exposé of the impact of rising school fees. But it denies using AI, so that's OK. It's a good old-fashioned pack of lies, lovingly crafted by hand.

  2. Congrats to The National newspaper for publishing Peter #Mandelson's outrageous attempt to use the #IPSO Editor's Code to intimidate the media. See archive.is/kajZT

But the code's provisions on #privacy are qualified by "unless justified in the public interest".

I guess The National's lawyers may not have found it hard to see a public interest in close scrutiny of a man apparently leaking cabinet info for cash to the world's most notorious pedophile.

  3. The #ipso is the independent (of government, Parliament & publishers) regulator for the #UK print & digital #news industry ipso.co.uk/

However, digital social platforms such as #ElonMusk's 'X' are not regulated by any UK independent body. Whilst 'X' users, & Musk, share & comment on #news articles, 'X' is not strictly speaking, a #News publisher

That's a loophole! Musk is using his platform to interfere in UK #politics & #Law

Plus, he can use 'bots' to skew the news landscape

  6. #UK / The Sun cleared by IPSO over report of claim Hamas ‘beheaded babies’ on 7 October

Press regulator #IPSO ruled on a complaint against The Sun newspaper for reporting claims that Hamas "beheaded babies" during the 7 October 2022 massacre in Israel.

The Sun's front page stated "savages 'beheaded babies'" and said #Hamas "reportedly" beheaded babies during an attack that killed 40 youngsters.

A complaint accused The Sun of publishing an unsubstantiated and false claim.

The Sun was cleared apparently because it presented the beheading claim as unconfirmed by using quotes and "reportedly", rather than stating it as fact. Other UK papers like the Daily Mail and Daily Express also published the beheading claims without quotation marks on the same day.

  7. #SuellaBraverman's "claim" aka Lies regarding the about the ethnicity of grooming gangs was false, regulator rules.

#MaiOnSunday forced to issue apology over her opinion piece claiming ‘almost all’ child grooming gangs were British-Pakistani.

The #ToryParty cannot help themselves lying. Do they actually think no-one checks on these lies?

  8. An inside look at how a #Times columnist with ties to coal mining, distorted #climate data in The Times – while #IPSO, the press regulator, turned a blind eye

The complicity of the billionaire press which too often gives a platform to the contrarian voices of Tufton Street – and the shortcomings of the press’ self-regulator, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso).

An inside look at how a #Times columnist with ties to coal mining, distorted #climate data in The Times – while #IPSO, the press regulator, turned a blind eye

It’s a case study not only in the mental gymnastics required of a science denier, but the complicity of the billionaire press which too often gives a platform to the contrarian voices of Tufton Street – and the shortcomings of the press’ self-regulator, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (...)

  10. For those of you who are cheering that for the first time #IPSO has finally found a #newspaper guilty of #sexism in an opinion piece (The Sun, Jeremy Clarkson), sadly the finding has almost no teeth whatsoever.... if you think this ability to act with impunity is no acceptable, then you might want to consider signing @hackinginquiry petition demanding an inquiry into the whole affair.

  11. With complaints about the notorious #JeremyClarkson column #TheSun on the grounds of harassment, inaccuracy and racial discrimination dismissed by #IPSO, this ruling will have no effect on the conduct of the press.

  12. Great overview here from the Transparency Project of the recent external review of IPSO. Lots to digest for those interested in the future of press regulation.

  13. Almost ten years in operation, and not a single investigation conducted. As if it weren't obvious to everyone in this country that the mainstream media is broken. #IPSO continues to earn its reputation as a sham regulator.

  14. @oliverromain @jim @openrightsgroup I made a complaint and thought exactly the same. Why should a newspaper have access to my personal details when I complain to the so called independent watchdog about them. This cannot be acceptable under GDPR?
