#NewMexico is apparently considering limiting #IPRA requests, or charging for them. There's an article related to that in the current publication of the State Bar -- which is locked behind the most horrifying webzine app I've ever seen. I was planning on doing a year-end “cold case" article, going over the Torrance County Sheriff's Office’s old unsolved cases. Unfortunately, their response to my #IPRA request was, to paraphrase, “We don't have cold cases or a cold case unit." Now I get to play the game of “Ok, does that mean you have no unsolved cases? The New Mexico Legislature is aiming to chip off a little more of our public records law. Here’s an editorial using local reporting as an example of why it’s a trash idea, and rubbishing the specious argument used to justify the proposal.

The bill would shield all but finalists for executive gov jobs from disclosure, creating cover for bad selection practices and suppressing valuable news reporting.

The response I use is just to hit the boards with the #NewMexico version of a #FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request, known as an #IPRA request (NMSA 10-15-1, if any others are looking for it).
