Собрал полностью открытый IP-KVM на ESP32-P4: две платы без единой капли припоя, прошивка прямо из браузера, а по возможностям он уже почти догнал “взрослые” KVM-over-IP - видео с автоопределением режима, виртуальный привод, ATX, Tailscale и даже маленький экранчик со статусом на корпусе (которого пока нет). Внутри - вся история проекта: от “сервер не грузится, а монитор на антресоли” до граблей с H.264, microSD… Ну давай, покажи уже, что получилось!

I've slightly updated the USBridge interface and made the menu more intuitive. For now, I've settled on a color version of the icons—I think it looks much more interesting than the monochrome green version.

I'm continuing to develop my hardware KVM-over-IP project. The main feature is "SSH mode." The device doesn't just transmit an image; it converts the BIOS screen into text output in the terminal using deterministic pixel mapping. Error codes can now be copied directly from the terminal.
I went further and added automation to the USBridge client. Scripts (for example, automatic BIOS entry) manage input delays and use OCR to search for the desired text on the screen. I find the line "Aptio Setup Utility"—wait, a pop-up appears—the script recognizes it and sends an Esc ($0x29$). In my opinion, OCR in automation scripts works surprisingly reliably here.

Security Week 2613: уязвимости в дешевых устройствах IP-KVM

Исследователи компании Eclypsium в свежем отчете сообщают об обнаружении целого набора уязвимостей в четырех пользовательских адаптерах IP-KVM. Такие адаптеры, как следует из названия, позволяют удаленно управлять компьютером, эмулируя клавиатуру, мышь и внешний дисплей. Компрометация таких адаптеров, соответственно, позволяет полностью перехватить контроль над управляемым устройством. В Eclypsium справедливо предположили, что дешевые (от 30 до 100 долларов) пользовательские устройства будут хуже защищены, чем аналогичные решения для применения в корпоративных сетях.

Last weekend, I finally took the time to install the #JetKVM ATX extension inside my "server".

I had to order a longer RJ12 cable as the one provided is really to short, can’t even reach the top of the computer case 😥

Regarding the extension, so far it’s working fine. Tested the reset and the power switch, both physically and via the web UI.

I would still like to have more information about the 5V header instead of using a USB-C PD brick.

Hey @homelab folks. I'm looking for an IP KVM capable of connecting multiple devices, and that won't bankrupt me. I know the PiKVM is one of the best, but the base module plus the 4 devices module is just too much money. What else is out there?

In case you wanna know, my fall-back solution, in case nothing pans out, would be the GL.iNet Comet (single device, $89 in the US). So I guess I'm willing to go up to $200, maybe $300 maximum. For sure not the $650 of a full PiKVM setup.

Устанавливаем Pi-KVM 4.94 на любое железо с OTG

Многие слышали про DIY проект Pi-KVM, позволяющий превратить ненужную малинку в IP-KVM. Не смотря на то, что разработчик проекта выпускает свое собственное железо, проект опенсурсный, но заточен только под одноплатные микрокомпьютеры Raspberry Pi 2, 3, 4 и Zero 2 W. Для того, чтобы поставить Pi-KVM на одноплатники других производителей существует хитрый хак, а именно скрипт, написанный энтузиастами. Лучше не знать, какая магия творится там внутри, но скрипт реально делает свое дело - ставит PiKVM версии 3.291. На этом вроде бы можно и закончить, если бы не одно "но" - в самой свежей версии 4.94 (на момент написания данной статьи) реализован режим эмуляции DVD-ROM, который позволяет монтировать большие ISO образы. Да и в принципе приятно когда установлен свежий софт, с исправленными глюками и багами, а не версия времен динозавров.

Finally getting around to connecting the #jetkvm units I ordered ages ago! They’re slick little things and I’m impressed with the lack of fuss.

Got this one connected to my #NAS box below it.. will probably connect the others to a couple of my mini PCs and eventually a Mac Mini M4 for inferencing. Bonus is that these trigger the video out which can be tricky for some boxes if there’s no display connected.
