I want to be able to use free (European) alternative ROMs (e/os, #iode and the likes) running hasselfree on such a phone (here's looking at you, #banks), that's what I'd expect from #Europe/#EU

Forgive my kvetching, but it drives me nuts that #AOSP-based #Android OSes always treat hyphenated words as words.

For example, if you type in "apple-cart," you get a red squiggly underline and it tries to recommend replacing it with "apricot" or something. The only way around it is to add every. single. hyphenated. word. you. use. into the dictionary. 😮‍💨

It's been a constant, daily annoyance for the past five and a half years, and the only fix is to install something like GBoard and use its spelling correction engine or whatever you call it, and I'd rather not.

I've experienced it on #CalyxOS and #IodéOS, but I don't recall if #GrapheneOS has the same issue, because I only tried it briefly.

I have to carefully check alternatives in OS for Android devices and hardware, which are promised and delivered by third parties. Reading back the sentence I can see that I also am influenced negatively by Alphabet

• third parties are good competitors of Alphabet on Android
• Android has a few good competitors to google in the form of:
• Fair Phone { which has slow hardware but is much easier to upgrade and maintain for YEARS}
• Graphene OS which is solid, robust but only supports Pixel phones due to it's safety standards in hardware## Graphene OS has partnered with Motorola who will produce high quality Androids so we'll have solid FAST alternative hard and software for Android
• I need new G4 Android phones URGENTLY which means the following

No new Graphene powered Android by Motorola

Retro Tech [REDACTED] Android due to fantasticly low price x1

Retro Tech [REDACTED] mid range Android because of very good price x1

• low price android has just 2GB ram and is used as a healthy yes / no GSM
• good priced low mid range android has 4GB ram and is used as a full device
• I only read of the iOde OS OnePlus 13 combo after I purchased the two above Androids
• OnePlus 13 phone is not easy to find new with vanilla Android!
• I can easily find OnePlus 15
• Even second hand OnePlus 13 costs too much in relation to my low budget
• The OnePlus top level series don't use microSD cards and have no analog audio output [a crime against all audio engineers like me]
• I move music by copying it to microSD cards for the phones since that is the fastest using my SBC Pi5 computing systems
• So I'm SOL after september with my phones too

however

• momentum forced me to get the simple alternatives
• no androids means no internet. ISP0 forces the sim cards with internet in a phone
• ISP0 gives way more internet bandwidth per EUR though

isp0 actively blocks portable and home routers with sim card capability

isp1 allows your own sim capable routers but gives way less bandwidth per EUR and is thus less atractive

both isp's blocked g2 devices in november 2K25

This meant the following

• replace all G2 devices in network
• cheapest available device G4 GSM is a whopping USD 40 until the [REDACTED] Androids were sold for USD 25
• significant ammount of G2 devices need to be replaced
• first two Androids were replaced because the power buttons along with the corresponding IC's needed replacement
• I detest surface mount soldering work {I have large hands due to my massively tall posture}
• I love only multilayered through the board soldering
• the parts for the two old androids are not in stock in my country
• the phones are too old to fix [three years]
• th parts and labour will cost to much since one phone is not even receiving security updates (thank you samsung, you arseholes)

Only options were the ones I chose

Note:

One Plus 13 may even be out of production, that means you can't buy it new anymore the year of manufacturing is 2024

Sadly we can no longer offer the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Samsung OneUI 8 prevents the bootloader from being unlocked which means it isn't possible to reflash @iode or any other privacy respecting custom ROM 😞.

If this is reversed we would be able to to re-add it to our store.

Note we still have the Galaxy Tab S7 available! It is a bit older but actually has much better specs than the S6 Lite!

Wolke's new phone (Fairphone Gen 6) arrived today! After trying E/OS/ Wolke decided it like customisation and instead now installed iodé, which Wolke is very happy with.

(BTW E/OS/s servers are real slow for downloads, like 200kbit/s slow. iodé hat 35MB/s - yes bytes! That is what Wolke's ISP allows it)

Eigentlich sind die Logs bei #nextdns immer deaktiviert. Nun wollte ich doch mal wissen was hier im Monat so an Anfragen rausgeht.
975.000 Anfragen und davon wurden 24 % blockiert.
Meine ganz eigenen Geräte sind nur für einen Bruchteil verantwortlich. #iode und #linuxmint sind sehr sparsam mit Anfragen und noch sparsamer mit geblockten Anfragen.
#smartphones von #samsung sowie #firetv sticks hingegen geben immer Vollgas.

Iodé OS, j'ai testé. Un OnePlus 9 reconditionné, acheté au printemps.
Bilan: effectivement, plus de Google, ni de pisteurs, ni de choses toxiques.
Mais: un telephone reconditionné avec une batterie qui tient moins de 12h en usage normal, des mises à jour frequentes, lourdes, et qui immobilisent le telephone. Plus les applis importantes (banques, docto*, sncf con*, ...) qui fonctionnent mal, refusent de se mettre à jour...Donc très déçu, je vais essayer autre chose.

I cant remember how I did this the last time I set up a phone two years ago...

I'm trying to install Google/Pixel camera on my #Pixel 7 running #AOSP-based #Iodé, but #AuroraStore says it's not compatible with my device.

I'd preferably like to get the old version I was running before, 9.0.115.586536401.40 (before they ruined the UI).

Does anyone know where I can get a working APK for my device?

I downloaded "com.google.android.GoogleCamera_9.0.115.586536401.40-66739056_18feat_0d88f0ed679ba77732b303a399904412_apkmirror.com.apkm" from #APKMirror, but it just crashes.

Any ideas?

Por si alguien se encuentra en las mimas cambiando la ROM de un Fairphone 3 siguiendo las escuetas instrucciones de @iode :

Cuando lleguéis al paso 3 "Type fastboot oem unlock", hay que darle en el móvil a que "si queréis prenderle fuego a todo lo que hay en el dispositivo" y ya se va a reiniciar.

Luego en teoría tienes que ejecutar en el paso 5 "flash-all.sh" de la carpeta que previamente habíamos descargado de nuestro modelo, pero a mi no me iba
(se quedaba esperando en infinito el script).
Pruebo a iniciar de nuevo el modo Fastboot, ya que ha iniciado el Android Stock de fábrica. Sigue sin ir.

SOLUCIÓN: Entrar en el Android Stock, volver a activar el "modo depuración USB" en las opciones de desarrollador y entonces si reiniciar al modo Fastboot y ya funciona el script "flash-all.sh" correctamente y puedes tener tu sistema más libre de Google.

El paso 6, más que opcional es redundante, ya que el propio script lanza el "oem lock" y hay que elegir en el móvil si lo quieres cerrar. Yo le he dicho que si para comprobar si las OTAs funcionan o me tocará borrarlo todo de nuevo para actualizar.
