It's because the stock market is not the collective wisdom of sober economic evaluation that it is hyped to be.
Someone - I forget who - described it memorably, and far more accurately, as "the stock market is a mood ring for how rich people feel about the economy that day".

Adam Smith was a great economist. But the invisible hand theory needs a government that is paying attention, not one that is being paid to look the other way.
South Australia is looking like a greater and greater state to live in, or at least model!

Also Enterprise Resource Planning software suites (specifically #ERP5 but it might prove too deep for my delving ability) and sometimes #cybernetics (which goes back to #mathematical #complexity and #communicationTheory ).

I was planning a post on Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand" theory, then something better came along - my little squirrel friend outside of my office window.
Somehow, this post is more satisfying. Or maybe, a new definition.
The invisible hand refers to the the invisible force that brings life to equilibrium through levels of openness and serendipity for a curious and welcoming individual.

They say that it's *impossible* for good regulations to exist, and therefore the only regulation that is even *possible* is to let businesses do whatever they want and wait for the #InvisibleHand to sweep away the bad companies. Rather than creating hand-washing rules for restaurant kitchens, we should let restaurateurs decide whether it's economically rational to make us shit ourselves to death.

It is almost as if the political power to shape financial incentives is the modern(ized) form of oppression. "#InvisibleFist" one could say & see a continuation of the more visible violence of old.
On a less serious level, working through the bureaucratic hurdles of installing one's own solarpanels, reveals the same type of structural discrimination/disincentives against progressive solutions.
