And, can you believe it, once upon a time improperly accepting gifts from litigants & attorneys has also been reason enough to impeach, convict & remove an associate justice. Not a fantasy about Clarence Thomas, but a fact — justice occurred in the case of Associate Justice Robert W. Archbald, impeached on July 11, 1912 & convicted, removed & *disqualified* on Jan 13, 1913.
