I usually like to use current photos for #ArtAdventCalendar (Day 09) but yesterday I was only out long enough to cut a little wood + too lazy to take photos of decorations..lol So! as we approach Winter Solstice, views from the opposite side of the year as we approached Summer Solstice. I chose shots with a lot of shadow as a reminder that there always needs to be a balance between Light + Dark #animist #pagan #summer #florespondence #Bloomscrolling #butterfly #inverts #NativePlants #pollinators

CW: tiny metallic blue-green wasp
Another #wasp on the #Aralia in the #garden I've only had a couple of brief poor views of similar in the past, so I was excited to see this one! At first I just got a couple of distant snaps and it was gone! I spent more than half an hour traipsing around the acreage to all of the flowering plants, finally found it again on another Aralia plant. Not great/close shots, but I was still stoked! Waiting for id on #iNat (maybe) #insects #Alberta #inverts #nature #Canada

@plants A very short video (YouTube link here, #Spectra to follow) of several different bees busily working the composite flowers of Saussurea riederi an Asian Sawwort and cousin to Asters, in the #garden . With quirky, low-key music and a bit of wind and bird sound behind, maybe...

CW: Moth pretending to be a mask of the Goat God
This #moth was positioned just right (facing downward) on the old screen door to look very face/mask like! Love this one :) I think this is probably Nadata gibbosa White Dotted Prominent.. funnily, almost none of the images I saw online caught it in quite this position..

CW: beautiful dragonfly + flower
2-Huge numbers of #dragonflies and other cool #critters were out, and I followed them around taking #photos and also found some favourite #Wildflowers in spots on the farm I wasn't expecting them. Here's just one of the kinds of dragonflies and a Canada Violet /Viola Canadensis the last of 4 species to flower on the farm/acreage (other 3 still going) More to come and there will be more critters and #flowers on my #iNat page #insects #nature #inverts #BloomScrolling

The quarantine tank is set up for our incoming micro shrimp. I ran the filter in the main tank for a week, then filled the little tank with water from the main tank and transferred the filter over. Hoping to pick them up tomorrow and get them settled in!

Hello synapse.cafe!
Just migrated from sciencemastodon, a perfectly good instance, but I think this will feel a little more like home. Anyway, #introduction time again!
I’m an assistant #professor at the University of Manitoba in #Winnipeg. I run the #Invertebrate #Neuroethology #Laboratory, where we study #AnimalBehavior, #Neuroscience, and #BehavioralEcology. We are interested in the #NeuralCircuits of #Learning, #Memory, and #DecisionMaking, especially with respect to #TimeMemory, other areas of #Chronobiology, and #MultisensoryIntegration. We work mostly with #HoneyBees (#Apis #mellifera), but we like all #inverts!
