The EU moves to ban high-risk inverters from China.
The European Commission will gradually eliminate the use of Chinese-made inverters in EU-funded energy projects, a major step aimed at protecting critical energy infrastructure from possible cyber threats that could trigger power outages.
An EU official stated that ‘serious’ economic and cybersecurity threats had been identified.

The 4-page #security note, said that undocumented cellular radios had been discovered "in certain foreign-manufactured power #inverters and #BMS ," referring to #battery management systems.
The note, which has not previously been reported, did not specify where the products containing undocumented equipment had been imported from, but many inverters are made in #China.

Its is totally unclear in which batteries produced by which companies delivered to whom had these modems (?) and if they were on, had SIM cards and so on.

Got home late last night and the inverter failed when the wife turned on the induction hob. Turns out the 125A MCB breaker feeding the inverter decided to fail.
Opening it up shows the contacts and conductive braid were badly discoloured from constant heavy loads like car charging.
I swapped it for a new one (thank goodness for spares) and had everything back up in 10 minutes but I think I'll be replacing it with a MCCB in the near future.

Some inverters have large input capacitors and can draw an inrush current of several thousand amps when the breaker is switched on. This can destroy the breaker contacts. If high inrush currents are encountered consider putting an appropriately rated resistor across the breaker contacts to precharge the capacitors before the breaker is operated.
