In the morning of day 10 of my first Japan trip in 2006, I met a local photographer buddy in Nagoya, and we took a train to Inuyama. A rainy but fun day of cherry blossom viewing at Inuyama Castle and local temples. At night, back at Nagoya Castle for some night photography.

Inuyama means Dog Mountain. My guide says nobody knows why this castle is named this.

This morning, we participated in hatsumode, the first temple or shrine visit of the year, at Haritsuna-jinja by the base of Inuyama Castle. It is possible to do this in many places at midnight but we opted not to. It is traditionally done within the first 3 days of the year.
