🧵 This yellow paper was dyed with an extremely stinky plant dye from our museum garden (Rubia tinctorum: never again! Smelled like an animal corpse).
And you can clearly see that I waited for a hospital appointment to find out if my meniscus has been exploded. Luckily, it’s still sitting nicely in place, I'm not a corpse yet, and I’ve gained a new page for my project! 🤭 😁

#ArtAdventCalendar In my childhood, I dreamed of having a cute, small and real dragon in our garden. I imagined dragons to be green (and did I say cute?). For my first bigger embroidery I tried to paint with the needle. Even adults could use dragon power!

Yesterday I was very creative at our demonstration table in the museum: my first collage that isn't just paper & paint. There was no audience (people probably used the rare sunshine for outdoor events), but we had fun! Now some small embroidery in gold to finish it. Otto's little world.

Otto is my nephew. He asked me to make an embroidery for his bedroom, so he chose the colors and that's what we got! Thankfully, he loved it. And I know he actually did because once I gave him a toy that he totally hated and immediately gave it to his sister hahaha.

Do you remember how I decided to #embroider #mosses in a 3-D way?

SLOWLY, I advance.
I found out that the secret lies in quite #natural = irregular #stitches and mixing #colours and #yarns. I'm using mainly #FrenchKnots (twined 1-5x), but also free #stitching where I later cut some of the threads open. Some glossy #yarn between imitates humid #moss.

Some intuitive stitching with watercolor I made a while back. It's one of my favorites, maybe because the process of making it was so relaxing. It's freeing not having a specific idea of what the final result should be and just enjoy the process.
