My friend is running Nimble for our next campaign. Looks interesting, but I feel like the 5e compatible sticker is stretching it. It’s an interesting blend of 5e, PF2, and NSR games like Into the Odd and Knave.
I’m trying my hand as a Commander.

Tonight in #MythicBastionland, a trip across the realm. We met at least one omen for each myth: a star to watch, a wyvern to kill, a rude possessed minstrel to handle…
I'm getting the hang of the game: being more liberal in the interpretation of omens makes for more dynamic play, and a layer of courtly intrigue makes the realm meatier rather than only using it as a backdrop for myths.
We are doing one season per session, and already reached the end of the first age 🧓.

Tonight in #MythicBastionland, our two new knights actually survived.
The Snare Knight and Hooded Knight encountered the morbid Reliquary knight ruling over the ossuary tower, faced the threats of the Mist and the Demon, and encountered their first seer, the Lens Seer.
Myths from the book are often a bit light on what the knights can actually do to prevent the worst from happening. Arbitrating what works and what does not requires more referee fiat than I expected. 🤔

Ran Mythic Bastionland ⚔️ :d12: for the first time tonight… it's only very slightly less lethal than Into the Odd :blobcatderpy:… We had a TPK on the very first session of the campaign 💀💀💀💀.
RIP ⚰️ Leaf Knight 🍃, Amber Knight ✴️, and their squires 🔰, defeated in combat by the Giant Boar 🐗 in the Kingdom of Dulcette ⚜️, a mere day after leaving the castle 🏰.
Let's hope next week's fellowship fares better! 🤞

I’ve discovered that nights when I know I’m going to get no sleep are the best nights for reading weird stuff I find myself putting off otherwise:
Into the Odd is wonderfully strange and I love it!
I’m just a couple of years late to the party on this one - all caught up now. For an experienced GM and players, I can see it being awesome.
Light but elegant sounding rules, leaving the rest of the book for setting the unsettling feel with location, NPC and magic item tables.

Last night's #CERN #Games Club event for the #RPG curious was a great success!
We had seven tables running various games including #DnD, #BladesInTheDark, #BladeRunner and #IntoTheOdd. Three of the GMs were from #SwissRPG. I didn't count exactly but I think we had about 50 participants, with around 25% coming from outside CERN.
I ran the #DCC #funnel "Underneath the Well of Brass". 8 players, 2 characters each, mortality rate was about 50%.

Hin und wieder sollte ich ein paar Updates über meine Projekte liefern – unter anderem, damit ich selber den Überblick nicht verliere. Ehrlich bin ich in solchen Momenten immer wieder überrascht, wie viel ich eigentlich mache: Ziemlich oft habe ich nämlich das Gefühl, mit überhaupt gar nichts voran zu kommen.
Das Parfüm des Vivisezierers (Swords&Wizardry)
Ich habe schon eine Weile nichts mehr von meinem Abenteuerprojekt erzählt - zuletzt habe ich darüber im März geschrieben. Damals hatte ich jemanden aus der Szene gebeten, sich einmal den aktuellen Stand anzuschauen – nicht unbedingt, um ein Lektorat zu machen, sondern um mir eine zweite Meinung über die Qualitäten und Schwächen meiner Arbeit einzuholen.
Die Schwächen:
- Ich schreibe gern sehr (zu) wortreich, was mir den Kommentar „das ist schon irgendwie in der Tradition von Das Schwarze Auge“ einbrachte. Das ist insbesondere deswegen interessant, weil ich in meinem Leben ein einziges gedrucktes DSA-Abenteuer gelesen und geleitet habe und darüber hinaus nur wenig Berührungspunkte mit dem System hatte.
- Es ist tendenziell ein wenig zu überladen – ich könnte einiges streichen und die verbliebenen Begegnungen, Gegenstände usw. sollten dann besser wirken.
- Aufgrund der langen Entwicklungszeit gibt es Schwankungen im Stil und in der Anlage von Begegnungen und Orten. Hier sollte eine einheitlichere Struktur durchgezogen werden.
Die Stärken:
- Gute geschriebene, interessante Begegnungen und kreative Monster. Das hat mich sehr gefreut.
- Der „Tausendundeine Nacht meets Sword and Sorcery“ Stil funktioniere und habe eine sehr eigene Stimmung erzeugt. Die Ähnlichkeit zu Tausendundeine Nacht war nicht beabsichtigt, aber im Nachhinein gefällt mir die Verbindung schon recht gut. Damals hatte ich vor allem Clark Ashton Smith gelesen… das passt von der Stimmung her schon eher.
- Das Abenteuer ist interessant und hat Potential, richtig gut zu werden und ggf. auch von einem Verlag veröffentlicht zu werden.
Das Feedback gab mir doch einiges an neuer Energie und so werde ich mich noch einmal hinsetzen und eine neue Fassung schreiben, in der vor allem auf eine gut am Spieltisch verwendbare Struktur achte. Ich werde erhebliche Kürzungen vornehmen, damit das Abenteuer in der Spielpraxis mehr Tempo bekommt und sich nicht zu lange hinzieht. Leicht wird mir das nicht fallen, das ahne ich schon.
Ende des Jahres werde ich mir dafür etwas Zeit nehmen.Zines (DCC und OSR bei System Matters)
Eine neue Ausgabe des Trichters für Dungeon Crawl Classics steht in den Startlöchern und wird hoffentlich noch dieses Jahr kommen. Ich freue mich sehr darauf - und natürlich arbeiten wir bereits am nächsten Heft.
Die erste Nummer des OSR-Zines namens Blinzelhund (der Name hat mit den wechselhaften D&D Übersetzungen zu tun) wird zur Spiel 2024 am Stand von System Matters und später auch in deren Shop zu haben sein. Darin ist ein Artikel von mir, der mit dem Schreiben von Abenteuern zu tun haben wird. Einiges darin wird euch vielleicht bekannt vorkommen.
Außerdem auf der Spiel: Ich! (Am Samstag.)Andere Projekte
- Mehr Reviews. Das nächste wird vermutlich die neue Edition von Knave zum Thema haben.
- „Eine Stadt hinter dem Nebel“ (Ila Zinar) - das Projekt das zur Gründung diese Blogs geführt hat - hat kaum Fortschritte gemacht. Ich habe aber einiges an neuen Ideen gesammelt und mein Bild dieser Stadt wurde durch das Abenteuer deutlich geschärft.
- Ein kurzer, weirder Dungeon für Into the Odd, Cairn und Electric Bastionland. Ich habe eine Karte und ein paar hundert Wörter. Das dauert noch.
- Ein Abenteuer in einem Moor (vielleicht für ein bestimmtes Regelwerk, vielleicht systemneutral). Es gibt bisher nur Notizen auf Papier.
- Ein sehr spannendes DCC-Projekt (nicht an einen Verlag gekoppelt): Wildes, inspiriertes Quatschen. Mal sehen.
- Ich übersetze und betreue weiterhin Projekte, in erste Linie für System Matters.

Yesterday I finished reading the Spanish version of Electric Bastionland. Lets see how weird and which kind of weird vibes this book is made from!

To inspire great characters gear must be unusual. A ten feet pole is useful in a deadly dungeon but does not inspire greatness. A pair of manacles might though.

Didn't realize it was DTRPG's Xmas in July sale until I saw a post here this morning, but I went ahead and bought "The Ship Who Swallowed a Spider" (a #MotherShip pamphlet adventure), A World Mending (a more hopeful post-apocalyptic game based on #IntoTheOdd), and Realms in Peril, which sounds like an interesting mix of #OSR and #PBTA.

Today I DMed an impromptu #IntoTheOdd session and it was a success.
While visiting some friends in my home region, my girlfriend told me a friend of ours and her boyfriend were in the same city (the same shopping mall, in fact) on the day to a birthday and, as they has some hours to kill... An intelligent silverback, a mutant and a villain went on to explore the depths of the Iron Coral.

I'm gonna run a game for friend who was disillusioned by the wizards TM property xD
I asked her what kind of tone she'd like and came out with #Escaflowne, not the mecha but the feeling. You must know that Escaflowne is one of my favorite things ever.
I thought of several games, including, of course, #AetherNexus (#TheMechaHack spiritual sequel) but I wanted something that felt closer to the game she came from in order for her to compare what she likes, so I'm going with #IntoTheOdd

I actually don't need "another ruleset" I am more interested in streamlined processes to play old school adventures. I really love the #intotheodd system. Also taking a look into the #dolmenwood rules and trying to decide for one ruleset.
