This #indigenous man revived Inti Raymi. Faustino Espinoza Navarro (Quechua) was a playwritght and linguist from Cusco, Peru. In 1943, Espinoza and a research team studied chronicles, anthropology, and oral history, and reconstructed the #intiraymi festival after 409 yrs. Espinoza would act as its 1st Inca. It is known that pre-Avestan Iranian cultures also just had summer and winter, and the same may have been true of the earliest Sumerians. Under this system, starting the year with one of the equinoxes makes sense, since it marks the beginning of the brighter (Spring) or darker (Autumn) half of the year.
However, this is not universal; #IntiRaymi, the #Quechua New Year celebration, was traditionally tied to the Winter Solstice.

Yo no sé casi nada sobre Dios, pero cuando deseo imaginarlo se me aparece el sol... Omnipresente, justo, indoblegable. Contra el que nada pueden las cadenas ni los señuelos de oro. Nada más parecido a Dios que este sol nuestro, principio de la vida, tan lejos y tan cerca.
Y nosotros, sus hijos, queriendo hacernos a su semejanza: justos, indoblegables. Sin que puedan contra nosotros las cadenas o los señuelos de oro.
