If Trump thought #Iran would collapse in a few days' time, he could not have been any more mistaken. The worst part of this particular intervention is the irony of the US pretending to be #Israel: hindering its own interests in just about every way. A global recession, the image of America as an aggressor, more antisemitism, and a possible shredding of the nuclear #NPT ... all made in the USA.

It all boils down to two choices: either fully invade, destroy, and capture the Islamic Republic and secure US objectives, or withdraw and make a serious, genuine effort to de-escalate and resume negotiations. There's no being in between. Worse, there's no easy way out, which is evidence that the US probably should not have been involved in the war in the first place.

Interventionism and noninterventionism both end up being awful in practice because interventionism is used to make the lives of others worse and noninterventionism is used as an excuse to not help people defend themselves against the interventionism that is making people's lives worse.
The solution then is not to automatically denote either of these things as intrinisically good, but to actively go against the grain in how they are commonly applied. -

I have a church friend whose wife is a naturalized American. She is from (presumably south)eastern Nigeria, but I cannot help but think of the many reasons why she and fellow Nigerians would immigrate to the US. One of these especially is security, and I wonder how life there would look if the citizens were trusted to defend themselves. It's probably better than a foreign intervention, American or otherwise.

ENG: This video illustrates US military interventions in Latin America marked by coups, dictatorships, and wars that benefited US Corporate economic and geopolitical interests at the cost of millions of lives.
From Guatemala in 1954, where the CIA overthrew an elected president to protect the multinational United Fruit Company, to the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, the pattern repeats itself: popular or reformist governments replaced by military dictatorships backed by Washington to secure foreign investment and control of resources.
In Central America, support for the Contras in Nicaragua and the Salvadoran army—including death squads—prolonged wars that left tens of thousands dead and missing. In the Southern Hemisphere, support for authoritarian regimes and the coordination of Plan Condor institutionalized torture and political assassination on a continental scale.
These are just a few examples. For decades, the United States acted as if Latin America were its backyard, building its economic hegemony on the exploitation of citizens and leaving behind a history of violence, chaos, and suffering that still marks the region today.
