  1. CW: rant about pesky eBay seller (not that important, just letting off steam)

I ordered a minor thing off eBay yesterday: replacement for a little Sistema lunchbox I like, where I took the rubbery seal out for cleaning and a curious person accidentally broke the seal into 2 pieces while fiddling with it. (It's still a good box for e.g. sandwiches, but not for anything that might leak.)

A bit later, I got a message from the seller: oh sorry, we haven't got those after all, our supplier discontinued them.

    Okay, it happens, whatever.

But then in their message they're like: can you confirm that you're happy with this cancellation.

    Confirm I'm happy with it?

Well (a) I am not, of course. What's to be happy about, when you've just wasted my time with your unfulfillable listing?

And also... (b) I'm a bit suspicious, because I don't think they should need anything from _me_ to action the refund.

Are they trying to make it seem like _I_ cancelled, for the benefit of their stats? Hmmm.

(When I had a similar thing recently - someone in the States who realised belatedly that they couldn't figure out an international courier - they just sent a nice apology and simultaneously refunded me, end of story.)

So anyway, I don't do anything with that message, and I wait to see if my refund appears.

Then just now, they fucking RING ME UP! What the fuck!

"Oh we sent you this message and we didn't get a response, please can you respond".

I did ask "so is this to make your stats look better", and he was like "oh well it does do that, but blah blah I just like to reach out"

I wasn't _happy_ about it before, but now I'm FUMING. You're interrupting me when I'm in the middle of something, for a benefit to you which you don't disclose up front, and no benefit to me whatsoever?!

This is not what my phone number was there for!

(come to think of it this is possibly even a violation of GDPR? because on the info it says that the phone number is there in case it's needed for the courier to arrange delivery.)

Anyway. eBay sellers.... do not do this!
