As an aside, if I’d seen the discussion about text-indent hanging at the time…
… I would have signed up and replied to say that while the traditional workaround has been to use padding, this is *always* annoying because it introduces lots of extra problems and considerations that shouldn’t have to be dealt with when all one wants to do is indent the text.
Maybe support in Chrome will be reconsidered now that Safari and Firefox support it? @foolip 👋

It’s almost the end of 2024 and the Interop 2024 dashboard is looking pretty great! Take a look:
Great work! 🥳
Sadly text-indent hanging and each-line keywords didn’t make it into Interop 2024 as I had hoped they would…
… and so another year rolls by without #Chrome supporting them.
Also... JPEG XL. It feels like a crime to the web that JPEG XL is only supported in one web browser at the moment.

So the focus areas for Interop 2024 have been announced. (See dashboard here.)
:gutkato_neŭtrala: JPEG XL has been proposed for inclusion, but ended up not being included. Guess we’ll have to wait a while longer (hopefully not even more decades) before we have widespread support for an image format that actually manages a substantial improvement on all fronts.
:gutkato_malĝojeta: As per usual, thanks to Google for being jerks and @mozilla for maintaining a neutral stance on the issue, which I can only assume is meant to ‘make the internet a healthier, happier place for everyone’ in some obscure way my mortal mind is too feeble to comprehend.
:gutkato_dikfingro_supren: As per unusual, thanks to Apple for actually doing something right this time around and supporting the format!

Pretty miffed the proposal to finally implement `break-after: avoid` across all browsers was rejected for Interop 2024.
These bugs are 26 years old - older than some of my colleagues!
I’ll just have to keep prodding the bug reports and keep my fingers crossed they are fixed soon.

User story: as an employee forced to do annual security training that is common sense to me, I would like the `:playing` pseudo-class across browsers so that I can more accurately select the video when tweaking the playback rate past its prescribed limits. #Interop2024

New post: “Interop Priority Game”
https://blog.kizu.dev/priority-game/
Today, @bkardell posted a question in his blog, in an entry named “Let’s Play a Game”.
In the post, he asks to try to sort a list of the proposed focus and investigation areas to our liking, alongside some commentary. That’s what I did!
I wrote about 10 proposals from the #Interop2024 which I'll really want to see work in all browsers. Mostly, #CSS ones, of course.

@foolip Lovely to see the #interop project thrive and grow! Will be exciting to see what #Interop2024 entails 👏

I highly recommend going and 👍 this #interop2024 issue by @scott — https://github.com/web-platform-tests/interop/issues/513
The ability to remove units when doing calculations in #CSS will be invaluable and has been present in the specs for quite some time, but no browser has implemented it yet.
I stumble upon its absence all the time, and the addition of this to CSS will unlock _so many things_!

I'll need to find more time to look into all the #CSS things for #Interop2024.
One thing I did look into was anchor positioning, for which @hi_mayank did create an issue: https://github.com/web-platform-tests/interop/issues/455 (thanks!)
I think I agree with what @jensimmons did comment there: it might be too early for anchor positioning to be there as a “focus area”.
But maybe it could be an “investigation effort”? That sounds more like it.
If you have thoughts or reservations about it — participate in the discussion!

@andy
Not quite certain this is the correct issue, but it's the only feature issue I've come across with masonry layout in the summary:https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1076027
Maybe we all should star it to draw more attention?
And perhaps this could be an issue for #interop2024.

@hdv @nicolaschevobbe I hope we'll get popovers&anchor positioning for #Interop2024

#WebDev folks, is there a reason there is still not a standardized way to outline text with CSS? A decade ago, we had non-standard options like `-webkit-text-stroke` and the “spread” value for `text-shadow` (bringing it in line with `box-shadow`), and then...nothing happened? This seems so much more minor than a lot of the things on the #Interop2023/potential #Interop2024 list, but I kind of hope it makes the cut next year 😅
