Today is #InternationalMusicDay, a celebration of the place of music in societies around the world. But how did people experience music in the past? 🎶

In the Middle Ages, sound was a fundamental part of religious and everyday life.

Since it’s #InternationalMusicDay, today, my #MusicForToday is

Dark piano, be mine tonight
I'm in your spell
And right now
I'll give it all to music
All to these angels right by my side
Right now there's so much music
So much music playing inside

🪘 On #InternationalMusicDay, we share a clip from the performance the #KnowAfrica project organised for the #EuropeanResearchersNight.

This piece of music travels back in time and space: a score found among the papers of Capelo and Ivens, taking us back to their expedition to #Angola in 1877-1880. They listened to the African music, they wrote it down in European sheet music, Prof. Vasco Ramalho reinterpreted it and brought it back.

Sharing my all time favorite album for #InternationalMusicDay: “Black sails in the sunset” by #AFI (1999)
An energetic, fast-paced masterpiece. #punkrock #hardcorepunk

Music scales would only consist of three notes, if it was up to Mi.

Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
